"Yes, Father!"
Louie Lyson nodded hard.
Meanwhile, at the Munger family.
Paige Munger had just heard that Jaden Waller had shown up in Jenos.
"I can't believe he's still alive. He vanished five years ago-I thought he was long dead.
"My wedding's tomorrow. He better not come pestering me. If he does, he can't blame me for being ruthless."
She admired herself in the mirror, in high spirits.
Tomorrow morning, she would marry into the Casson family of Eastonia.
The Casson family of Eastonia was a super clan with overwhelming power there.
Compared to Eastonia, Jenos was a backwater. Even the Four Great Families of Jenos were nothing in front of the Casson family, not even in the same league. Even if the Four Great Families joined hands, they still wouldn't be worth a glance.
Eastonia was the most prosperous city in eastern Valia, and the Casson family was one of its super clans.
With the Casson family as a backer, the Munger family would soon sit atop Jenos.
No wonder Paige felt so delighted. Once she married into the Casson family, her status would soar. From then on, even her father would have to watch her mood within the family.
"Miss, that Jaden Waller killed the Farrell family's second young master, Finnegan Farrell," the maid reported. "He's being hunted citywide by the Enforcement Bureau."
"Does he think he's still the Waller family's eldest young master, doing whatever he wants in Jenos? He's got a death wish. The Farrell family will never let him go. Good thing I didn't marry him back then," Paige said, smug relief in her voice.
"Only Melina Shadboult would be dumb enough to wait for him all these years. Back when the Waller family fell and the Nine Great Families all came to break engagements, she was the only one who refused, stubborn to the end. What was she thinking? Why not do herself a favor and find a better match?"
"I don't know," the maid said, "but I do know this-Young Master Casson is a hundred, a thousand times better than that fallen Waller heir! He's not only debonair with an illustrious lineage, they say he's already a War God Level Martial Artist at such a young age. His future is limitless. You and Young Master Casson are a match made in heaven, Miss."
"You do have a sweet tongue." Paige flicked a bank card to her. "Here's $10,000. It's yours."
"Thank you, Miss! Felicia wishes you and Young Master Casson a long, happy marriage and beautiful children soon!"
"Go on then. I'm turning in early. I have to get up at dawn to get ready. The wedding dress and everything are all set, right?"
"All ready, Miss!"
Blossom Estates.
Juliet Lashbrook lay on the couch in a sheer white nightgown, Jaden on her mind. She wondered if he had found a place to stay. Bored, she flicked on the TV.
A broadcast flashed across the screen-Jaden Waller was wanted by the Enforcement Bureau citywide.
"How could this be?!"
She jerked upright, tucked her legs under her, and grabbed her phone.
She dialed Jaden.
He picked up quickly.
"Hello, Auntie. What's wrong?" He sounded drowsy; he had been about to sleep.
"Jaden! Are you in bed? I just saw the news. The Enforcement Bureau is hunting you!" Juliet's voice trembled.
"Oh. It's fine, Auntie. Go to bed. Don't worry." He yawned.
He had expected the Enforcement Bureau to step in. After all, everything that happened at the Darion Group was on camera. Once the Bureau pulled the footage, they would lock onto him immediately. Add to that the fact that the dead were all big shots in Jenos, including the Farrell family's second young master-there was no way the Bureau would dare treat it lightly. They would throw everything they had into the case.
"Jaden, I already bought you a ticket for tonight's flight out of the country. Pack a bag and head to the airport. I'm going downstairs to grab a cab right now," Juliet said, flustered.
"Don't. It's fine, Auntie. Refund the ticket," Jaden said.
"But…"
"Don't worry, Auntie. I don't even put the Four Great Families in my eyes. A mere Enforcement Bureau can't do anything to me." His voice carried an edge of dominance.
Juliet froze for a beat. "Jaden, are you sure you'll be okay?"
"I'll be fine, Auntie," he said with a smile in his voice.
"Okay. Then get some sleep."
"Mm. Good night, Auntie."
Juliet hung up, still uneasy, and went to bed.
She didn't sleep a wink.
At dawn, three bombshells exploded across Jenos.
First: the news of Jaden Waller being wanted citywide by the Enforcement Bureau. Everyone in Jenos knew it now-the fallen Waller heir had returned, and he had publicly killed the Farrell family's second young master. He was now a wanted man.
Second: Zayden Lyson's sixtieth birthday banquet. Word had it that many prominent families and luminaries from all walks would attend. Rumor even had it a true big shot might show.
Third: the Munger family's heiress, Paige Munger, was getting married.
Those three headlines lit up the entire city. Jenos hadn't been this lively in ages.
Lyson Garden.
The place was already packed with guests. Power players and socialites from every sector arrived one after another to offer congratulations. Smiles all around. Gifts in hand, ready to be presented.
Many didn't want to be there, but none dared skip it. The Lyson family's status in Jenos spoke for itself. No one dared slight them.
Zayden Lyson sat in the seat of honor, surveying the harmonious hall below, satisfied.
"Lyson Group presents a golden Buddha, wishing Old Master Lyson boundless fortune and long life!"
"Munger Group presents a piece of Tianchi Coldjade, wishing Old Master endless years!"
"Shadboult Group presents golden phoebe wood-"
Boom!
A massive copper bell dropped from the sky and slammed into the center of the banquet.
The floor caved in.
The deafening crash sent cold sweat prickling across every back.
"Longevity Hall presents one copper bell-wishing Old Master Lyson a son soon!" a mocking voice called from outside.
The next second, dozens of figures appeared inside Lyson Garden.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?" the Lyson family's butler demanded, stepping forward.
"Longevity Hall, here to deliver a bell to Old Master Lyson," a man said. "Please accept our gift. Our young master prepared it personally."
Nier took a step forward, laid his palm on the copper bell, and sent it hurtling toward Zayden Lyson.
"Courting death! How dare you disrupt the banquet!" Hudson Lyson moved to intercept. The instant his hand touched the bell, he was blasted backward. Blood sprayed from his mouth.
"We're here to deliver a bell to Old Master Lyson. Everyone else, out of the way," Nier said coldly.
Zayden rose, brow knitting, and struck the incoming bell with his palm.
Pfft!
He was also sent flying, a mouthful of blood blooming in the air. He skidded back, step after step-dozens of steps-before he finally steadied.
Gasps rippled through the crowd.
Hudson and Zayden Lyson, the Lyson family's two War God Level Martial Artists, couldn't even stop a bell. One was seriously injured; the other staggered back dozens of paces.
Who on earth were these black-clad people?
