After he finished dealing with Darion Group's CEO, Jaden Waller finally turned and walked toward Melina Shadboult.
"I thought…"
"Thought what-thought I died?"
"I'm hard to kill," Jaden said with a grin. "I don't go down that easy."
A smile bloomed on Melina's face, the first in a long while, though she still seemed a little stiff. Her hands fluttered, unsure what to do.
"Leave this to me. You should go," she blurted as a thought struck her. "If the enforcement squad shows up in a bit, it'll be trouble."
"You'll handle it? How? If you could, that fat pig wouldn't have gotten to take advantage of you," Jaden teased.
"He did not." Melina puffed her cheeks. "I've trained in self-defense. He can dream."
"As long as I'm here, no one will lay a finger on you," Jaden said, his eyes turning razor-sharp. "If someone so much as grazes you, I'll wipe out his entire family."
Melina froze, then a bright, dazzling smile unfurled, like a flower bursting into bloom. She felt elated at his words, but she didn't want Jaden taking risks-didn't want him coming back to Jenos. If the Four Great Families found out, they would never let him go.
"I know who you are-you're the Waller family's remnant from five years ago! You're still alive?!" Eugene Duffus, sprawled on the floor, finally came to his senses.
"Darion Group has a powerful background." Melina grew anxious. "Jaden, you should leave. I'm with the Shadboult family. They won't dare do anything to me."
"Oh? How powerful?" Jaden asked, curious.
"How powerful? I'll tell you how powerful!" Eugene bared his teeth through the pain, his face contorting. "The Hoez family-you've heard of them, right? A top house in Jenos. Patrick Hoez is my buddy. One call and he'll bring men over!"
"So you like hanging out with dead men," Jaden said, noncommittal.
"What do you mean?!" Eugene snapped, brow furrowing.
"Go ahead," Jaden said calmly. "Call him. I'll wait right here."
"Fine! Kid, you've got guts!" Eugene forced his left hand to fish out his phone and dialed Patrick Hoez.
"We're sorry, the number you dialed is unavailable at the moment!"
"How is no one picking up?!" He stabbed the call button several more times-still nothing.
"Probably partied too hard last night and hasn't woken up!" he muttered, then dialed his father.
The Duffus family wasn't as vast as the Hoez family, but it ranked among the top in Jenos. They even kept ten elite hitters on retainer, one of them a warlord-class fighter.
The call connected quickly.
"Dad! Someone's causing trouble at the company and he smashed my balls. Get over here with men!"
"Who did it! He dares hurt my son? He's seeking death!"
"Jaden Waller-the Waller family remnant from five years ago!"
"The Waller family? Which Waller family?"
"The one that had that earthshaking incident five years ago!"
"That Waller brat is still alive?! I'm bringing Ezra over right now! Stall him. Don't let him leave."
Melina heard that and hurried to Jaden. "You have to go. In a moment, you really won't be able to. They won't dare touch me."
Jaden shook his head. "It's fine. I'll wait for them here."
"Kid, you really do have guts!"
Not long after, a group stormed in. The middle-aged man at the front had a hard, cold gaze. A chilly young man stood at his side.
The middle-aged man was Eugene's father, Flynn Duffus.
"Dad! Ezra! You're finally here! It's him-he came to make trouble and smashed my balls! I-I can't do anything anymore. I'm a cripple! Dad, kill him, kill him for me!" Eugene clamped his legs together and staggered to his father, nearly sobbing.
"You dared injure my son's lifeblood-cut off the Duffus line!" Flynn exploded.
"Old man, if I remember right, your Duffus family also swallowed Waller assets behind the scenes back then." Jaden's voice turned cold. "Perfect. Let's settle old and new debts together today."
"Arrogant." Flynn flicked his gaze to the youth. "Ezra, do it. Kill him."
Ezra nodded and strode toward Jaden, expression glacial, a dagger glinting in his hand.
"Relax. My blade is swift. You won't feel a thing," he said coolly.
"You talk too much," Jaden said.
The next second, Jaden snatched a pen off the desk.
With a sharp whoosh, it streaked out.
Thunk!
It punched through Ezra's right eye in an instant.
Jaden stepped in, reached him in a stride, and ripped the pen back out of Ezra's socket. Blood sprayed from the ruined eye. Terror froze on Ezra's face, his left eye blown wide as he collapsed.
"Ezra!" Flynn staggered back half a step, stunned. "How is that possible!"
Ezra had been killed-just like that.
"All of you, get him! Kill him!" Flynn barked.
"If you don't want to die, leave," Jaden said to the wavering hitters who didn't dare approach.
In the next heartbeat, the nine bodyguards beside Flynn turned and bolted without looking back. Anyone who could one-shot Ezra wasn't someone they could face. Charging in was suicide. The Duffus paycheck wasn't worth their lives.
Jaden walked straight toward Flynn.
"What are you doing! The Duffus family has deep ties with the Hoez family. If you touch me, the Hoez family won't spare you! D-don't come any closer!" Flynn trembled.
"Dad! What do we do!" Eugene shouted.
"Shut up! I'm about to be killed because of you," Flynn snapped, exasperated.
"You have two choices," Jaden said, pointing at Melina. "One, die. Two, wire $100 million to her bank account within an hour."
"$100 million!" Flynn's face drained.
Melina also blinked-$100 million.
"Problem?" Jaden asked, his brow pinching.
"No problem! I-I'll raise the money right now! It won't take an hour-half an hour at most and it'll hit her account!" Eugene cut in quickly. "Dad, hold the line here! Be a hostage for a bit!"
