Julian woke in his bed in Aethel to the sound of Chloe Hayes's voice. She was wishing him a good morning with her usual cheek, oblivious to the fact that Julian had just spent the final moments of his previous life being gutted in a sneak attack. He stared at the ceiling, the phantom pain of the restart still prickling at his nerves. He needed to contact the Weavers immediately; the loop was getting tighter, and the variables were multiplying faster than he could track them.
