After graduating from high school, Elise refuses to give in to her date's demands.. Elise is threatened that if she talks, it won't be just her reputation that is ruined, but that of her family. While attending counseling to deal with her issues, she comes to realize her relationships never worked because Elise is a lesbian. She had been dating men because that was what was expected, but not because that was what she wanted.
Elise moves to Rochester, MN, to pursue a college degree, her career, and vows to put her personal life on hold until her professional goals have been achieved. After several years of studying and working to pay her living expenses during college, Elise meets an employee at the hospital where she is to complete her last year of her nursing clinical rotation. After literally running into each other, the attraction is too strong to ignore.
