Conrad saw the comatose girl even before she made her way to him. He had no idea what her name was. She was an omega, and he was the Alpha's son, the future Alpha of his pack. They didn't exactly run in the same social circle, both in the packhouse, school, or any other aspect of their lives.
At first, he knew her as an awkward girl because of the way she stared at him in school and her inability to utter more than two words at a time in class, but then again, half of the females in his class were gawk girls to him. Every girl wanted to have a taste of Conrad.
Conrad's father, Alpha Zero, has recently stopped the segregation between the ranks of the pack at school; otherwise, Omegas had no business with Alpha bloods.
But now, everywhere he turned to there was one sitting close to him.
He watched her like he usually does, trying to intimidate her into looking away. Normally, a comatose girl could hold his gaze for half a second before she chickens out, but it made no sense that she would hold it for more than a minute now, and still did not attempt to look away.
He ran his hand through his black hair, pushing it away from his face, revealing a tiny scar above his eyebrow from the last fight he had with the White grave pack two weeks before. His opponent had it
worst.
"Why is she staring at you? And what are my parents doing with hers?" Julian Cross asked him.
Julian Cross, Beta Marcus's son, was a foot shorter than Conrad. His parents were not particularly tall people, butJulian was just as fierce as Conrad; after all, he was to be Conrad's future Beta after his
father, who was currently occupying his body.
Conrad looked at his best friend. "I don't know," he murmured.
When he looked up again, Defiance was standing closer now.
"You!" She pointed at Conrad.
Everyone froze.
Did an Omega just address the future Alpha as you?
Even Conrad was speechless for a moment, too. ( Way to go, Coma girl! Now I have to rip you apart for insubordination. His soft smile almost said, but Defiance was yet to crack the complex act of a
sarcastic smile. She assumed it meant the young lad was honored to make her acquaintance.
"You! You may approach me," She told him with her grace-filled voice, like she would when she was an imperial princess talking to a subject.
Conrad's eyes widened. "Excuse me?"
He blinked. Did she just give him, Conrad Blackwood Masters, permission to approach her? He scoffed, but it wasn't enough.
Defiance was used to seeing lads intimidated about approaching her.
She had her overprotective father, uncle, and cousin, Crown Prince Alexander, to thank for it.
So, when she saw Conrad hesitate, she didn't read mean into it.
"I said that you may approach me," She repeated.
Conrad was quick to stop Julian from transforming into a wolf and attacking the mentally unstable girl.
"Relax, Julian. You heard the girl, she permitted me to approach her," Conrad said and took a step towards Defiance.
Semeen saw immediately what was going on and tried to intervene, but the Franklins were already beside their daughter and halfway down on their knees, asking for mercy from the Alpha's son.
"Please forgive our daughter, Conrad. She just woke up from a Coma today," Lucy was quick to say.
Insubordination was a serious crime in the pack. Conrad almost wielded the same authority as his father. He was greatly respected.
Defiance turned around and stopped her parents from getting on one knee.
"You don't have to do that," She told them.
She had once again thought they were bowing to her, not Conrad.
"What is your name, Lad?" Defiance asked him
Lad? Conrad laughed. Wait! Did he just laugh? When was the last time he laughed? Probably one year ago, before his mother was killed by the white grave pack.
"The name's Conrad. You know my name, but I guess with the extent of your injuries, memory loss is normal."
It took Defiance a minute to realize he was talking about what happened to Maddie.
"Permit me to be so bold as to ask, what house are you from in this century?"
"House?" Conrad appeared confused.
"She is asking for the name of your noble house?" Judd interpreted, even though he was trying not to snap the neck of the lad who got his niece's attention.
He turned to Semeen, "Don't tell me humans got dumber with time."
Semeen ignored him. "Apologies, Conrad, my husband fell and hit his head."
"Is Father alright?" Julian immediately asked his mother.
Judd looked at him and deemed his eyes considerably. "Wait! Don't tell me I have to play father to this oddly large ear…"
Semeen stomped on his feet to shut him up. "This is not the time for jokes, sweetheart. Our son and his classmates need to be in the pack arena for training. Move along, children!" Semeen ordered them.
Conrad turned around to go, but Defiance grabbed his hand. He stopped and turned around.
"Don't go," she told him.
She observed him closely now. His Roman nose and cheekbones sat above an oaken jaw.
His deep blue eyes were round and darted constantly with delight as much as they danced with mischief, too. Conrad was handsome in an understated way; his basalt jaw and Spartan shoulders spoke of
strength. He possessed a demeanor of power and walked with purpose and authority.
He wondered why Madd, of all people le was making herself aware. Maybe it was the way she was looking at him, I'm maybe he was just looking at her truly for the first time, maybe, or perhaps she was a different person together.
"I have to go. Alpha Zero might be my faith, er, but he holds everyone to a standard, I can not be late, Coma gi.rl"
Conrad said it before he realized he wasn't supposed to call her that to her face.
