"Sorry. I don't know your name."
His apology was genuine.
"Call me Diddy. There is no need to be formal about titles, right?"
"I guess. I still have to go. Can you let go of my hand?" Conrad looked at his arm where Defiance's hand was currently firmly clasped around.
Defiance blinked. Something was wrong.
"Conrad…I feel…I feel something. I think I am we," She blurted out and looked at him.
There was a roar of laughter from the teenagers behind them, and even Maddie's parents looked embarrassed. First, she got her name wrong, and next, she was telling everyone that she was…she was wet.
Conrad moved closer to him. "Don't say stuff like that, you are embarrassing yourself," he chastised her.
He has had girls come on to him, but never this boldly and in front of many people.
"Hold me Conrad…I think…"
"I can't do that," Conrad wanted to be any place but there.
Defiance watched the world rotate faster and faster. The ground beneath her feet was becoming shaky, and she was wet on her back. She saw Conrad take his arm away, and with him, the only thing that kept her steady.
She couldn't believe he would do something like that now.
"Why?" she murmured as she lifted her shirt and showed her back to him. It was filled with blood.
"I told you I was wet," Defiance said before she lost consciousness.
"Maddie!" Her parents yelled.
Conrad was quick, and he caught her before her limp body hit the ground. He lifted her easily, but then Julian's father took her from him and shoved him aside roughly.
"We need a physician or a witch!" He yelled at Semeen.
Jake Franklin pointed at the packed hospital.l "We have to take her there."
Judd took off towards the building, but when he got to the strangely small building, he stopped. Everything looked alien. For one, the wooden handle he was used to wasn't wooden anymore.
Semeen was next to reach him. She opened the door, and he entered.
Judd placed her on a miniature bed in the room.
"We need a physician! We need help!" He yelled for help.
Judd watched his niece as she kept slipping away until her eyes finally closed.
Defiance had a dream while she was passed out due to blood loss. She was back in Aradale in the safe arms of her parents and familiar environment.
There was no moving box trying to kill her or rude lads resisting her grace and charm. She was just the imperial crown princess, and she was happy.
Conrad must have begged himself to stand up and leave, but somehow he was sitting on a plastic chair watching an insignificant girl talk in her sleep while her frightened and intimidated parents were a few
steps away from him.
They looked like his presence was causing serious damage to their mental health.
(Stand up, Conrad! Stand up and just leave! What are you even doing here?)
Conrad kept talking to himself, whispering and urging himself to stand up and walk out of the filthy hospital.
Ever since his mother died in one, he has always hated the smell of one or being in one altogether.
He watched her face. She wasn't a great beauty or anything, just a regular-looking Jane with her midnight black hair that screamed for a comb and oval face.
Her lips were small and looked like they were begging to be kissed by him.
At seventeen, Conrad has had his fair share of girls and kisses. And something beyond simple, since he lost his virginity to a girl named Chastity at fourteen and at least six more girls since then.
He wondered if the girls he slept with even minded that when they finally find a mate that they won't be virgins, but then again, it was the 21st century, and no one was expecting anyone to be
untouched. Conrad truly wouldn't mind if he found his mate next year and she wasn't a virgin.
He was many things, but he wasn't a hypocrite.
He watched the Coma girl closely as she opened her eyes slowly. He knew she would be honored to have an alpha blood like his sitting by her side, waiting for her to open her eyes. She would probably
dream of it for days. Conrad knew he was about to make Maddie Franklin's year just by being there.
Defiance's eyes fluttered severely before she opened them.
"You..."
"Yeah, me. How are you feeling, Diddy?" Conrad asked her with a smile.
"I told you I was wet, but you didn't believe me". She blinked several times. She was thirsty.
"I thought you meant....never mind. All that matters is you are alright and I am here," Conrad smiled before he spoke again to lighten up the mood. "Do you want a picture or something for a keepsake?" 2
Conrad had no idea why he wanted her to smile and blush or do the million things girls around him do every time. He had expected a lot of different reactions from her, but he didn't expect what she told him
next.
Defiance blinked and stared at him.
Wasn't he supposed to be remorseful for being a horse butt to her earlier? Were lads in this century devoid of the sense of chivalry and manners in favor of looks?
Defiance wished she were still the imperial crown princess, and she would have simply had him flogged, but since she couldn't, she went for the next best thing.
"Leave"
She watched as the smug smile on his face disappeared. It gave her great satisfaction.
"Wa itt hat!"
"I said you should leave. Come back with an apology or don't bother coming back at all, but you are forbidden to talk to me, Conrad."
