Chapter 2: No Longer Quinn Vanessa

Opening her eyes was Vanessa blinked slightly. She sat up slowly on her bed as she looked at her surroundings. Wasn't she dead? Why was she still awake? The thoughts were running through her mind as she stood up from her bed. Her steps were firm, and she didn't feel as though she had just been hit by a car. Come to think of it, she wasn't even in a hospital. Instead, she was in a rather familiar room. Ahh! This was her bedroom back in her home. 'W-why am I here? D-did mom and dad come e find me? Did they bring me back home?' Different thoughts ran through her mind as she smiled in surprise and happiness. Without wasting a single moment, she made her way out of the room and ran downstairs at full speed. Upon getting to the main living room, she heard the voice of her mother, and with that, she ran towards the kitchen and just as she had expected, sitting beside the kitchen island was no one other than Linda Owen, her mother. And beside her was a little sister, Kami, and they were both busy giggling. When they heard the sound of someone running towards the kitchen, and to their surprise, standing before them was Vanessa. But instead of having a warm and happy expression, their faces turned bitter and cold. Not noticing their sour expression, Vanessa ran towards her mother as she hugged her tightly. "Oh mother, I've missed.. yo-" PA! She was hit in the face by Linda, who didn't seem one bit regretful for the slap she had given her daughter. Meanwhile, Vanessa just stood there dazed and frozen. Still unable to process what had just happened, she was then given another slap on her left cheek, this causing tears to fall from her eyes as she moved back in fear and pain. "Mother.." Kami tried holding her mother back, but Linda wasn't satisfied with the two sla;s, she wanted to beat her back and blue right now. "M-mother, W-why did you hit me? W-why?" Vanessa, unable to hold her tears, cried slightly. "Why? You dare to ask me why? You stupid and ungrateful brat! What haven't I and your father given you? We have loved you dearly and given you every single thing you have ever wanted, and all we just wanted was for you to have a husband and be happy with your daughter!" "But what did you do? You didn't just divorce Rowen behind our backs, you even went on ahead to get drunk and upload that stupid video.. i-i want to skin you alive!" She shouted as she charged towards her, but Kami held her back. Meanwhile, Vanessa looked confused at her mom's words. Divorce? Video? What was her mom talking about? She had divorced Rowen about a year ago, but why was she still so angry about it? Just then, Aunt Lila made her way into the kitchen to see the three women all in tears. "What is going on?" She asked as Vanessa froze upon seeing her. "A-aunt Lila, you're alive?" She said, almost falling to the ground. What was happening? Spotting Kami's phone, she quickly took hold of it as she turned it on and checked the date. And to her surprise, it was March 16, 2024, as she had gone back one year into the past. Way before her life had taken a drastic turn. But if it were currently March 16, that would mean. "Rowen and I just divorced!" She said out loud as she immediately stood up and ran out of the house. "You brat! Where are you running to?? Come back here!!!" Linda shouted, but Vanessa was already out like lightning. She ran towards her house parking lot as she spotted one of their various drivers entering the car. "Stop!" She shouted and he immediately stopped the car. "Y, Madam?" "Quick! Take me to the Quinn Enterprises, immediately!" She said as the driver nodded and did as he was told. It didn't take long for them to get to their destination, and upon arriving, Vanessa realized she wasn't the only one who had arrived at the company. Stepping out from his car was a tall man, dressed in a black suit, who looked both handsome and Charming. He was tall and had a cold yet refined expression. As soon as he stepped out, a group of employees all lined up accordingly as they bowed down to greet him. "Greetings, Mr. Quinn!" They all said in unison as he nodded slightly. His attitude, manner of taste, and response were perfect and sophisticated. After that, he was Rowen Quinn, the Billionaire CEO of Graceland. Just as he was about to make his way to the elevator, just then, the loud voice of someone very familiar yet very annoying was heard. "Rowen!" It was Vanessa, and upon seeing her husband, tears immediately fell from her eyes. Not having control over her body, she ran towards him and hugged him tightly, leaving everything including Rowen speechless. Especially the employees who had never once in their lives thought that the great Vanessa Owen would hug their boss, her husband of almost 7 years. "R-rowen, I've missed you so much, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry, please forgive me... I'm so sorry," she cried and begged while still hugging him tightly, still not getting any response from him. "Guards!" He shouted, his voice so loud that Vanessa shivered slightly. Immediately, the guards stationed outside the building came rushing in. "Ye, sir?" "What is the meaning of this? How would you let just anyone inside the company? Don't you know your duty?" He shouted, his voice cold and full of hatred, as Vanessa cried slightly. Confused, the guards exchanged looks as they said, "But sir, Mrs. Quinn is the boss's wife, we couldn't possibly not allow her into the company." " Oh," Rowen said, his voice calm yet frightening. "Well, then let me tell you some. Hing, the woman you see here is no longer my wife but my ex-wife, so she is no longer to be referred to as Mrs. Quinn." He said as he then took a strong hold of Vanessa's shoulders and shoved her away. Weak and still shocked, Vanessa lost her steps and fell face-first to the ground as Rowen turned around and left, leaving her on the ground. It was then she realized that she was still in her pajamas.
