Watching him turn and walk towards the other VIP lounge, I exhaled lightly and pushed open the banquet hall door.
Upon hearing the noise, the people in the room all turned around. Seeing that it was me, several familiar brand representatives immediately came over.
"Miss Everard, long time no see. We’ve heard that the base fragrance for the upcoming Aethel hit ’First Love’ was personally provided by you? We’ve caught wind of it; those lucky enough to smell the sample say it’s a stroke of genius, that you’re the real ’Muse’ behind Aethel. Are you here to officially announce joining Aethel today?"
Facing their inquisitive eyes, I shook my head and repeated what Julian Lancaster had just said.
But these savvy people didn’t believe it at all, exchanging knowing glances.
"A regular supplier? Miss Everard, you don’t need to be modest! Everyone knows you’re the eldest Miss of the Everard Family; you’ve been winning international awards since your teens, willingly stepping behind the scenes for Mr. Lancaster, helping him start from scratch. You say you’re a supplier, but who would believe that..."
Listening to them bring this up, I felt a bit dazed.
Yes, these were once my proud "contributions"; now, when I hear them, they only seem laughable.
Since heaven has given me a chance to restart, I naturally won’t stay in the same constrained world with Julian anymore.
I took my phone out of my handbag and opened the Everard Fragrance Group website. In the "Management Team" section, my photo and position were prominently displayed—Chief Aromatherapist.
Upon seeing this, everyone finally believed a bit, marveling in amazement.
"It is... So you have no ties with Mr. Lancaster, then what’s the deal with Serena Sullivan from Aethel? She’s a design major, suddenly becoming a fragrance genius, that’s too..."
"Shh, keep it down. You all know how much Mr. Lancaster cherishes her! Three years ago, he forcibly transferred all of the Everards’ resources to her, pushing Miss Everard to retreat behind the scenes. Now that he’s successful and famous, marrying Serena Sullivan seems natural, doesn’t it? As for talent... Ha-ha, isn’t talent ’purchasable’ in the age of capital?"
"No, no, if Mr. Lancaster loves Serena Sullivan so much, if she truly had abilities, he’d flaunt it; why keep it hidden, with no official title? Something is going on!"
As everyone was discussing, the banquet hall door was pushed open again.
Julian Lancaster entered holding Serena Sullivan’s hand. Serena was wearing a high-end custom gown, a proper smile on her face, but the moment she saw me, a trace of panic flashed in her eyes.
She heard the discussions among the crowd and looked somewhat guilty towards Julian Lancaster.
"Julian, are they... are they talking about me?"
The word "no" had already reached Julian Lancaster’s lips, but upon seeing the grievances and unease in her eyes, he swallowed it down.
He knew she had been waiting for a legitimate status, but he still needed me to create value for him, so it’s not the time to go public yet.
Yet he couldn’t bear to see her disappointed.
Under myriad pressures, he glanced at me, then gently patted Serena Sullivan’s hand.
"Don’t worry, Clara will explain to you."
