Silas nodded. "Fortunately, the Heavenly Path sent us a message, saying this was Zane's destined tribulation as well as his fortune! We just had to wait patiently; otherwise, we would have gone mad over the past year."
Everyone nodded slightly.
Silas scanned the crowd, letting out a cold laugh. "Looks like we've been too low-key, making some people think they can trample over us. From today onward, anyone who dares to strike from the shadows, bully us when we are down, or challenge Mr. Zane will be executed on the spot, no matter who they are!"
"Noted!"
The nine elders roared in unison. Their momentum surged, distorting the very space around them.
This was clearly no ordinary Misthaven Realm cultivation but rather…
"By the way, Mr. Silas, Mr. Zane will be heading to the Greaves family in three days to annul the engagement! However, according to our sources, Kayden is currently at the Greaves Residence. How should we handle him?" One of the elders spoke up, a playful smirk tugging at his lips.
"Whatever Mr. Zane decides, we follow! Anyone who objects—we'll beat them until they comply," Silas said coldly.
"Understood!"
Everyone nodded.
At this moment, Roman stepped forward. "Let Chad and me go along. Let's see what those old fools from the Holy Land of Tormaine are made of."
"Heh, sounds good."
Chad also stepped forward, nodding. He was a scholarly-looking middle-aged man with a sword wrapped in cloth strapped to his back. His entire presence was calm and composed, yet his eyes gleamed.
"Mr. Silas, I must say, Mr. Zane has grown a lot since his return after a year. He understands our family's hardships and went straight to reclaim the resources he gave to Bristol. I never expected that from him," John said with a pleased expression.
"Indeed," Silas agreed with a nod. "But we should still make things seem a bit difficult for him, let him experience adversity and learn to strive forward. We can't let him become a spoiled young master."
The elders exchanged glances and chuckled knowingly.
Meanwhile, at the Greaves estate, everyone in the Greaves family was doing their utmost to flatter a young man—Kayden Kenion.
The said man sat in the main seat in the main hall, his gaze haughty as he looked down on everyone.
Listening to Bristol's tearful complaints, he scoffed, "Bristol, don't worry. If Zane dares to show up in three days, I will make him kneel before you and beg for forgiveness!"
The moment his words fell, everyone in the hall breathed a sigh of relief.
Landry Greaves, the head of the Greaves family, smiled obsequiously. "Bristol, hurry and thank Mr. Kenion! If not for him, we'd surely be bullied by the Greaves family!"
"Yes, Father." Bristol smiled sweetly and curtsied gracefully toward Kayden. "Many thanks, Mr. Kenion. I will never forget your kindness."
"Heh, Bristol, you're too polite. Your matters are my matters, too. Anyone who dares to bully you is an enemy of mine," Kayden said, his eyes narrowing slightly as he strode forward, gently taking Bristol's hand.
"Exactly, Bristol, don't you understand Mr. Kenion's feelings? You mustn't let his kindness go to waste," Kate added teasingly, her expression full of mischief.
As soon as she said that, Bristol lowered her head shyly.
Seeing her bashful reaction, Kayden's heart thumped, but with so many people around, he had to restrain himself.
"Ahem… Hahaha, Kate is right!" Landry laughed heartily. "If Mr. Kenion truly cares for my daughter, once she annuls her engagement with Zane, I will personally betroth her to Mr. Kenion!"
Upon hearing this, everyone smiled brightly.
Bristol lowered her head even further, murmuring, "Father, why are you bringing this up all of a sudden?"
With that, she bashfully grabbed Kate's hand and ran off.
As she left, Kate and Kayden exchanged a knowing look.
Watching Bristol's coy retreat, the crowd erupted into laughter.
Yet Kayden's smile was cold and mocking deep down. He mused, "Marry me? What a joke. I don't fooling around with her, though. After all, I think she is still a virgin. Zane, you treated her so well, yet you didn't even make her yours? How pathetic!"
Despite his thoughts, he spoke with a completely different tone. "Being able to marry Ms. Greaves would be the greatest honor of my life! However, I should spend more time getting to know her first. I wouldn't want to rush things and make her uncomfortable."
"Haha, of course! Young people like a bit of romance. I understand," Landry said with a chuckle. He was utterly delighted.
Back then, the Greaves family had relied on the Casson family to rise in the capital of the Khidal Empire.
Now, having found an even stronger backer, he couldn't help but feel grateful for having such a good daughter!
"Then I'll go find Bristol now," Kayden said with a smile.
"Mr. Kenion, please, go ahead!" Landry grinned, bowing slightly.
Kayden then left the grand hall, accompanied by a servant and two elderly. They headed toward the rear courtyard.
"Mr. Kenion, do you really intend to marry Bristol? I doubt your father will approve," one of the older men asked in a hushed tone. "Besides, this girl has been subtly hinting at wanting you to gift her spiritual treasures. I'd say she has a rather cunning mind."
"Heh, of course not. I'll sleep with her first," Kayden sneered, his gaze turning sharp. "As for spiritual treasures… she can dream on!"
As they walked, Kayden spoke nonchalantly, "Money is for showing off to women, not for them to spend. Understand?"
"You're wise, Mr. Kenion," the older man paused briefly before nodding.
"That being said, Bristol is quite something. Playing hard to get, feigning reluctance while secretly seducing me are all part of her tricks."
Kayden scoffed inwardly, "Does she want my devotion and to keep me on the leash? Dream on! She won't get any benefit until I get what I want."
He had bedded countless women in the Holy Land, and with just a glance at Bristol, he knew exactly what she was scheming.
Three days passed in the blink of an eye.
During this time, the news of Zane's return had spread throughout the entire capital, causing a massive stir.
After all, he was once the most dazzling genius, and now, with his cultivation crippled, countless people began to harbor their schemes.
Today, all eyes were on the Greaves Residence.
