The middle-aged man, Milo Shaw, enunciated the word "outsider." If it weren't for his precious son, he wouldn't have known Kayden wasn't a biological descendant of the Shaw family.
However, he hadn't even anticipated Kayden's importance to the family. In the three years since Kayden left the Shaw family, not only did he maintain contact with many family heads, but even top-tier families canceled their partnerships upon learning that Kayden was absent.
This led to the Shaw family declining over the years, and recently, the family's old guard and shareholders hoped Kayden would return.
"Please unfreeze my card. I don't wish for a fallout between us over the money. You should know, if I really put my mind to it, I absolutely have what it takes to do that."
"Damn it!"
Thud!
On the other side, Milo, the current head of the Shaw family, slammed the phone down hard, feeling frustrated and in disbelief.
After hanging up, Milo sat in his chair with a dark expression. He had investigated Kayden's situation, knowing that he was a laughingstock for three years. Yet, Kayden was once the most mysterious genius in the business world.
He had turned his 50,000-dollar salary into 2 billion in just three years through his investments and business acumen!
If it hadn't been discovered that Kayden didn't have the Shaw family bloodline, Milo would have been the most stable person in the position of the family head. Under his leadership, the Shaw family might have become the top family in the city.
And now, this business prodigy, sought after by countless top families, was threatening to become an enemy of the family if they didn't compromise. Could Milo afford not to take it seriously?
After estimating Kayden's current network and calculating his influence, Milo finally picked up the phone, "Mr. Lapwood, go to the bank right now and unfreeze that 2-billion-dollar account."
Ten minutes later, a bank message informed him that the money had been officially unfrozen.
Feeling a pang of guilt mixed with determination, Kayden looked at the message on his phone with a complex expression. "I really didn't want to do this."
The family had provided for him for 20 years, and he owed almost everything to them. Although the family had wronged him in the end, Kayden had never thought of seeking revenge.
But this time, because of Ximena, Kayden had to call and threaten his uncle to retrieve his money. In fact, that money was initially meant to repay the family for their kindness.
Meanwhile, Kayden dialed the bank's service number, saying he wanted to withdraw 30,000 dollars in cash in half an hour. The bank, thrilled, prepared a grand reception, hoping Kayden would let them manage his funds.
Kayden stated he wouldn't be investing the money for now.
As for why he wanted cash, it was because he wanted to quietly give it to Ximena, just like before, to solve her problem discreetly.
"Am I now the top millionaire in Jenville?"
Beep!
A Volkswagen raced toward him. Despite Kayden's quick reflexes, he was still grazed by the car and dragged along.
"Just my luck! A top-tier client is coming to the bank, and I accidentally hit a scammer!" An elegantly dressed woman in a white top and short skirt opened the car door and stepped out.
She checked the damage to her car with concern, glanced at the fallen Kayden, and pulled out her purse, throwing three bills at him. "I'll consider myself unlucky! Here's 30 dollars, enough to compensate for your junk car. If you don't accept it, I'll call the police!"
"Are you Amelia Hunt?" Kayden was nearly too surprised to speak when he saw the beautiful woman. It was his college classmate.
"Kayden?"
Amelia also recognized him. She frowned at his cheap clothes and electric bike. "You've got to be kidding. How did you end up like this, resorting to scams?"
"I was just distracted." Kayden felt awkward. Technically, he was partly at fault for the minor accident. "I'll pay for the repairs for your car."
Amelia scoffed in disbelief. "No need. I'm in a hurry to get back to the bank for a meeting with a billionaire client. If I manage to snag him, I'll give you this car. By the way, that man's last name is Shaw too, but unfortunately, not from the same world as you."
Amelia directly shot down any thoughts Kayden might have had. A poor man riding an electric bike to scam people shouldn't even think about having any designs on her.
"I have things to do. I'm leaving. Here's 50 dollars. Consider it a gesture for our old friendship."
The Volkswagen then sped away.
"Could that billionaire with the last name Shaw she's talking about be me?" Kayden chuckled to himself. He picked up his electric bike, only to find it was broken and wouldn't start.
Though he was rich now, he had grown attached to the bike that had been with him for three years. So, he pushed it to the bank, turning a ten-minute ride into an hour-long walk.
When Kayden arrived at the bank, he was greeted by a red banner: [Welcome, Our Honorable Client, Mr. Shaw.]
"Is it really me?" Kayden was taken aback when he saw a beautiful girl in a white top and short skirt standing at the bank entrance, looking as exquisite as a movie star.
The girl paused upon seeing Kayden.
It was Amelia.
Amelia assumed Kayden had come to find her, given he was pushing his electric bike. She frowned. "Kayden, I've already compensated you. Why are you still pestering me?"
"Uh." Kayden said awkwardly, "I'm here to withdraw money."
"You? Withdrawing money from the bank?"
Amelia frowned. One usually used the ATM for small-amount withdrawals. But thinking of their old school days, she said, "Fine, I'll handle it. Just take your money and leave quickly."
At that moment, an annoying voice came from behind. "Amelia, why are you bringing a laborer into the bank again? Shoo! Don't block the entrance."
A sharply dressed man with a nametag that indicated he was the manager emerged, treating Kayden like a beggar and shooing him away.
It was the manager, Judson Shirvinton.
Judson had pursued Amelia before, but she rejected him. So, he made things difficult for her at work.
He harshly reprimanded Amelia, then turned to Kayden, "Move your junk away. Don't ruin our bank's image!"
He even went over to kick the electric bike.
Seeing this, Kayden lost his temper and pulled out a platinum card. "Damn it, get your director out here. Is this how you treat your billion-dollar client?"
