"Mr. Linnit, welcome! It's a real honor for the Yale family to have you here despite your busy schedule."
Sophia changed her previous demeanor of displeasure to one of flattery and smiles.
After all, Samuel was the wealthiest man in Arbor City, and his Starlight Group was one of the top ten enterprises in Breyton.
"Mrs. Yale, there's no need for such formality. I'm here mainly because of the Quinny family, but that doesn't mean I agree with this project collaboration."
Samuel said without expression, glancing at Sophia before turning his gaze to Isaac with a cold sneer. "Mr. Quinny, am I right?"
"Y-Yes, yes!"
Isaac was startled, nodding fervently. "You're right, Mr. Linnit. As for the Ethereal Haven project, whether it succeeds depends on the sincerity both parties bring."
"Yes, both of you are right! Mr. Linnit, we've invited you here with utmost sincerity. Please, come inside."
Sophia signaled Isaac with a discreet nod, eagerly ushering Samuel into the house.
Isaac followed closely behind.
"You can't go in. Don't you see Grandma is discussing important matters with Mr. Linnit?"
John blocked Savannah's family from entering, casting a glare at Raymond.
"Why can't we enter? Savannah is the manager of the company's engineering department. If you're discussing matters with Mr. Linnit, why avoid her?"
Lily's expression darkened with indignation.
"Why? Just because you have this worthless individual in your family, do you think Savannah can hold her position for long?"
Selina stepped forward, sneering. "Let me tell you the truth. Grandma has already confided in me. If Isaac can secure the Ethereal Haven project this time, I'll replace Savannah."
Upon hearing Selina's words, Alvin and Lily were stunned.
Savannah looked aggrieved. "No! It's impossible! Grandma wouldn't do that!"
"Why not? It's a fact. Blame yourself for marrying a useless husband!"
Selina glanced at Raymond with a look of malicious delight.
She admitted she was not as capable as Savannah.
But so what? She married a good husband who could crush Savannah's pride and dignity.
Savannah was furious but couldn't deny the truth in Selina's words.
For five years, she endured humiliation and grievances because her husband was Raymond, often crying herself to sleep each night and unable to hold her head high in public.
"Don't worry, Savannah. They won't easily succeed in the collaboration. Your position is irreplaceable."
When Savannah's family was feeling down, a voice spoke up.
"I..."
Hearing the voice, Savannah felt like she found her way in a fog.
But when she saw that the speaker was Raymond, she was confused.
Why was it Raymond who said this?
"Hmph, that's easy for you to say!"
John and Selina sneered at Raymond's words, baffled by his confidence.
"Savannah, don't worry. Let's wait and see."
Raymond said calmly, ignoring John and Selina.
He had already grasped the situation.
The Yale family wanted the Ethereal Haven project from Samuel, but their capabilities were insufficient.
Sophia had to rely on the Quinny family connections to bring Samuel to the table.
However, even the Quinny family didn't have much sway judging by Samuel's earlier attitude.
Sophia's chances of success were slim, but that wasn't the point.
The point was that Raymond was displeased.
Anything that displeased him was bound to fail.
Raymond had already sent a message to Louis, instructing him to inform Samuel to cancel the project, whether the discussions succeeded or not.
As John and Selina mocked Raymond, the door burst open, and an unhappy Samuel walked out.
"Mr. Linnit, please don't be angry. This project is critical to the Yale family. We'll meet any conditions if you agree to grant us the project."
Sophia and Isaac, looking anxious, tried their best to persuade him.
"No, the Yale family is too weak. I'd better find someone more capable."
Samuel said haughtily, about to leave when his phone suddenly rang.
"Mr. Connor... it's you! How can I assist you?"
Seeing the caller ID, Samuel's demeanor immediately shifted to one of awe and respect as he stepped aside to take the call.
Sophia and Isaac exchanged bewildered glances, speculating about the mysterious man, who could make a business tycoon like Samuel humble himself.
They were curious about the caller's identity.
"Yes, yes. Rest assured, I'll do as you say," Samuel said before ending the call.
His demeanor had softened, and he approached with the smile of a child receiving praise.
Sophia and Isaac shared a look of astonishment.
What had happened?
Why had Samuel's attitude shifted so dramatically after a phone call?
Could it be...
"Mrs. Yale, which one is your granddaughter?"
Samuel asked with a smile, snapping Sophia from her confusion.
"Granddaughter? Umm..."
Sophia was momentarily speechless.
"Mr. Linnit, you mean... I understand!"
Isaac's eyes lit up with realization. He gestured excitedly to Selina. "Selina, come over quickly, Mr. Linnit wants to see you!"
"Mr. Linnit, you want to see me?"
Selina was as bewildered as Sophia.
Why did Samuel want to see her? Her mind raced with possibilities.
Was Samuel interested in her?
Though Samuel was nearly sixty, wealth made age irrelevant in this era.
"Yes, Ms. Yale, hello!"
As Selina's mind wandered, Samuel approached her with respect, shaking her hand.
His deferential attitude stunned not only Selina but also Sophia and the Yale family.
What was happening?
Moments ago, Samuel had been dismissive, even of the Quinny family. Why the sudden change?
Even more shocking, Samuel instructed his secretary to present a contract to Selina, saying respectfully, "Ms. Yale, this is the Ethereal Haven project contract. Please review it. If everything is satisfactory, you can sign it now."
The crowd was as if struck by lightning, stunned into silence.
What was going on?
Despite their efforts, Sophia and Isaac failed to secure the contract, yet Samuel was eager to sign with Selina.
What was his relationship with her?
Their faces turned pale with shock, and Isaac's eyes nearly bulged out.
Could Selina have an inappropriate relationship with Samuel?
While everyone wore different expressions, Raymond furrowed his brows, feeling both amused and exasperated.
It seemed Samuel had mistaken Selina for Savannah.
"Alright, Selina. What are you waiting for? Sign the contract!"
Sophia was the first to recover, urging Selina to sign.
"Uh, oh, okay, alright..."
Selina returned to reality, hastily signing her name without reading the contract.
"That's Good. Now that Ms. Yale has signed, the Ethereal Haven project is yours to manage," Samuel said, taking the contract.
But just as he was about to sign, a sharp voice interrupted, "Mr. Linnit, make sure you have the right signature. You wouldn't want to report to the wrong person, would you?"
Samuel flinched, nearly dropping his pen. He looked at Selina's signature and his expression changed dramatically.
