Raymond returned home with Savannah.
Although Raymond's earlier performance in front of Sophia had surprised Alvin and Lily, it wasn't enough to change their opinion of him as a useless son-in-law.
They were resolute in their decision.
They couldn't tolerate Raymond tarnishing Savannah's reputation. Even if Sophia disagreed, they were determined to force him to divorce Savannah.
As soon as the family got home, before Raymond could even sit down, Lily slammed a few sheets of A4 paper in front of him and snapped.
"Sign it!"
Raymond was taken aback. When he saw it was a divorce agreement with Savannah that Lily was forcing him to sign, he couldn't help but find it both funny and exasperating.
How much must they despise him to go to such lengths to drive him out of the house?
"Mom, Dad, I will not agree to a divorce!"
Raymond glanced at the divorce papers and refused outright without reading the contents.
"You won't agree? Hmph, what are you? A live-in son-in-law! We don't need your consent. Savannah, stop standing there, sign it!"
Seeing Raymond's calm demeanor, Alvin became even more infuriated and yelled at Savannah.
However, what frustrated the couple even more was that Savannah didn't look at the divorce papers before tearing them to pieces.
"Mom, Dad, can you stop this? I won't divorce Raymond. Even if you make me sign, Grandma would never allow it!"
Savannah's words left Alvin and Lily deflated like a popped balloon.
Indeed, no one in the Yale family dared to go against Sophia.
"You..."
Seeing Savannah defy them, the couple had no choice but to leave the house for fresh air.
Alvin and Lily were gone for a long time, leaving the room in an awkward silence.
"Savannah, thank you."
Raymond sighed deeply, looking at Savannah with warmth in his eyes.
"There's no need to thank me. I'm not divorcing you just for the sake of the Yale family's reputation, not out of feelings. There can be no feelings between us!"
Savannah said coldly, her expression as icy as an iceberg.
"I know."
Raymond replied, trying to maintain his composure, though a whirlwind of emotions surged inside him.
"How did you know Grandma wouldn't sign the contract with Mr. Linnit today? And why was Mr. Linnit so polite to me?"
Savannah's eyes studied Raymond as she quickly got to the point.
She was a shrewd woman and didn't believe Raymond had any foresight.
Today's events were unusual. Why did Samuel deliver the contract after just one phone call?
"Samuel is the richest man in Arbor City, proud and arrogant. The Yale family barely qualifies as a second-tier family here. His expression made it clear he looked down on the Yale family. Even a fool could see he was just putting on a show and had no intention of signing the contract."
Raymond shrugged with a smile.
"As for his politeness toward you, I genuinely can't explain that."
Savannah stared at Raymond for a long time without speaking.
After a moment, she sighed and changed the subject.
"Now that Grandma has taken the contract, what should I do? Should I attend tomorrow's meeting?"
"Don't worry. I told you that no one can replace your position in the Yale family."
Raymond said calmly, a glint of wisdom in his eyes.
"Tomorrow, you don't have to do anything. Just stay home and wait for them to come to you."
"I understand."
Savannah replied, seemingly enlightened by Raymond's words.
She had been thinking the same thing.
She had no personal agenda when signing the contract with Samuel.
She genuinely wanted to secure the project for the family.
But since Sophia didn't trust her and had stolen her credit, they could deal with the aftermath themselves.
"You must be hungry. Let me cook for you."
Raymond offered, appreciating Savannah's quick understanding.
He smiled and headed to the kitchen.
Despite their brief time together, five years after marriage, he had taken care of all the housework, and his cooking suited Savannah's taste.
As Raymond headed to the kitchen, the doorbell rang.
Who could it be? Were Alvin and Lily back?
Raymond and Savannah wondered.
When Raymond opened the door, he was met by a young man with a bright smile.
Raymond felt a surge of anger.
The young man was Levi.
It was the same man who had framed Raymond and sent him to prison five years ago.
Since college, Levi had been Savannah's most ardent pursuer.
With his family's wealth, he had tried to win her over with money, but Savannah wasn't interested. In the end, pressured by her grandfather, she married Raymond.
Levi had always seen Raymond as a rival and had resorted to every possible means to win Savannah over, including framing Raymond for a crime. He caused Raymond to get drunk and framed him for sexual assault.
"Well, if it isn't the criminal! Are you out of jail now?"
Levi sneered upon seeing Raymond, his words dripping with sarcasm.
"Levi, what are you doing here?"
Savannah was visibly uncomfortable with Levi's cutting remarks, her eyebrows furrowing in displeasure.
"Savannah, have you forgotten? Today's Valentine's Day! I've brought you a gift."
Levi smiled, then took out a jewelry box from his pocket.
Inside was a finely crafted Cartier sapphire ring.
Ignoring Raymond's presence, Levi held up the ring and proposed to Savannah, "Savannah, you know how I feel. I chose to propose to you on this special day. Please accept me."
"You..."
Savannah felt her face heat up with embarrassment and anger, which left her momentarily speechless.
As for Raymond, he couldn't suppress his rage, his fists clenched, his eyes blazing with fury.
"Levi, stop making a scene! I've told you before that we're just friends. We're not suited for each other! Please don't push my limits!"
Savannah finally found her voice, retreating with a pained expression.
"Savannah, this ring cost over a hundred thousand dollars to custom-order from the jeweler. It holds significant meaning. You say we lack a foundation for feelings, but that's easy to change. If you agree to marry me, we can develop those feelings over time."
Levi persisted, pointing at Raymond and shouting, "Am I worse than this criminal? I'm sincere! Please accept me!"
Levi shamelessly attempted to place the ring on Savannah's hand as he spoke.
Then, a firm hand snatched the ring just as he reached out.
"What are you doing, you worthless man? Give me back the ring!"
Levi was furious to see Raymond snatching the ring.
Raymond's face turned cold. His eyes fixed on Levi.
Raymond's fingers closed around the ring with a force that twisted the metal, and the so-called eternal diamond shattered into dust.
"Trying to pass off a piece of glass as a Cartier sapphire ring? Levi, you have some nerve!"
Raymond let the glass fragments scatter in the wind, his cold gaze unwavering on Levi.
Both Savannah and Levi were stunned by the sight of the shattered fragments.
Even if it wasn't a diamond but glass, it was still tough.
Raymond's ability to crush it with his fingers was terrifying.
Savannah stared at Raymond in disbelief.
What had he overcome to become this strong in the past five years?
She questioned whether he was still the despised man from five years ago.
"You..."
Caught in his deceit, Levi was infuriated, but one look at Raymond's intense gaze made him feel fear for the first time.
"Savannah, I..."
Levi tried to explain, but Savannah's glare silenced him.
"No need to explain. Whether a diamond or glass, it has nothing to do with me. Just leave!"
Savannah turned away, refusing to engage further.
"Savannah..."
Levi was unwilling to give up, but as he tried to argue, Raymond stepped forward, coldly commanding, "Get out!"
"You!"
Levi was livid, his face darkening, but he didn't dare provoke Raymond further. Defeated, he left the house.
Bang!
As soon as Levi turned, the door slammed shut behind him, startling him.
"You worthless man, don't get cocky! I'll get you one day!" Levi spat angrily at the door before leaving with a face full of spite.
