"King cobras are among the most dangerous snakes in the world. Their venom is extremely potent. If someone doesn't get medical treatment within half an hour of being bitten, there's basically no chance of survival."
"Plus, Elijah just ran down the mountain like crazy, which only sped up the spread of the venom. At this point, not even a miracle could save him."
Yvonne stared at Ian in disbelief as he rattled off all this information. She blurted out, "Dummy, when did you get so smart?"
She honestly didn't care whether Elijah lived or died. If he died, he probably had it coming.
What really got her attention was how Ian suddenly seemed like a totally different person, almost smart, even.
"Yvonne, I'm not dumb anymore. I'm back to normal now," Ian said honestly.
"I don't buy it. You've been like this for years. I've taken you to see doctors so many times, and they all said there's nothing they could do. There's no way you're just suddenly back to normal. Quit messing with me!"
Even though Yvonne could tell Ian was making more sense than before, she still couldn't believe he'd just snapped back to normal all of a sudden.
"Yvonne, come on down. It's too dangerous up there," Ian said, not bothering to explain any further.
"Climbing up was the easy part, but getting down is a whole different story. I can't do it," Yvonne said, almost on the verge of tears.
The tree she'd climbed was huge. Normally, there was no way she could've gotten up there, but in a panic, she somehow managed. People really had superhuman strength when they were in danger.
"Don't worry about it. Just jump. I'll catch you," Ian said, confident now that he had the powers of Alina.
"What? You actually want me to jump? Are you trying to get me killed? I'm not as dumb as you!"
Yvonne had almost started to believe Ian wasn't dumb anymore, but after hearing that, she thought he was back to being crazy. She was stuck up there, about as high as a three or four-story building. Jumping would probably get her seriously hurt, if not killed.
"I told you I'd catch you. There's no way I'd let you get hurt," Ian said, looking innocent.
"How are you supposed to catch me from this high up? Quit showing off. Let me figure out a way to get down on my own."
Just as Yvonne was talking, there was a loud crack. The branch under her feet suddenly snapped!
"Ahhh!" she shrieked in terror as she started falling fast.
Just when she thought it was all over, she suddenly felt herself caught by a pair of strong, steady hands.
She looked up and saw that it was Ian who'd caught her.
The woman couldn't believe that he had actually managed to catch her!
Ian had quick reflexes and caught her right in the nick of time.
He held her securely-one arm behind her back, the other under her knees-basically carrying her like a princess.
For a second, it felt like time stopped.
Yvonne was still in shock, frozen in place, just letting Ian hold her.
For the first time since he got better, Ian found himself looking at Yvonne up close.
Her cheeks were rosy, and she had the cutest dimples. Her long lashes framed a pair of big, clear eyes that sparkled.
But what really caught his eye was her perfect figure and those long, slender legs that made it hard for one to look away.
