Out of curiosity, Jonah clicked on the news notification. The news concerned the city's first reported case of a child with a rare condition known as "big-headed doll" syndrome. All the top doctors had already held several consultations, but no one could figure out what to do. The child's parents, out of options, were seeking help from the public.
As Jonah kept reading, he frowned. Wasn't he supposed to get a job at the hospital within three days? Wasn't this a great chance? The thought made Jonah close his eyes and instinctively search his mind for any experience that had treated this kind of illness.
Thanks to the lifetime of medical experience he'd inherited from Skyler, a highly effective treatment plan quickly popped into his head. Excited, he immediately called Daisy.
"Daisy, let's meet at the intersection at 7:30 tomorrow morning. I'll give you a ride to work!" Jonah said with a confident smile. "And… I'll be going to an interview too!"
"Alright, good luck with your interview!" Daisy laughed, not taking Jonah's words seriously. After a brief chat, she added, "Alright, I'm going to take a shower. See you in the morning!"
After hanging up, Jonah thought about the problems he might run into tomorrow, then got ready for bed.
The next morning, he arrived at the intersection right at 7:30 and saw Daisy walking over from a distance.
Daisy was wearing the casual outfit Jonah had bought her the day before. She was tall and slender, with a sweet and beautiful face, and she looked so stylish that people couldn't help but stare as they walked by.
Jonah felt a mix of pride and annoyance- she was just too eye-catching!
Twenty minutes later, they parked their e-bike, linked arms, and walked together toward the hospital lobby. It was rush hour, and just as they got to the entrance, they ran into Edwin.
Edwin was munching on bread and holding a milk in the other hand. When he saw Jonah and Daisy walking so closely, his eyes widened with jealousy and anger. He sneered, "You've got some nerve showing up here, loser!"
"Designer brand!" Jonah patted the nicest outfit he'd ever bought and grinned. "It costs way more than yours. You're the real loser… Oh, and I'm here for an interview today, so get ready to call me 'Grandpa' and lick my shoes in front of everyone!"
"Dream on!" Edwin snapped. "I have no idea why Daisy would ever pick a loser like you!"
"Don't bother arguing with him," Daisy said, pulling Jonah along. After giving him a little comfort, they split up to get to work.
Jonah walked around the hospital, printed out a resume, asked a few questions, and then confidently headed straight to the director's office.
He knocked on the office door, and when someone told him to come in, he went inside.
Inside, he saw an elderly man with gray hair and reading glasses, sitting at a huge desk, buried in paperwork and jotting things down with a pen.
When he saw Jonah come in, the man stopped what he was doing and asked, "Young man… who are you?"
"Hello, Mr. Moore!" Jonah gave a slight bow and smiled politely. "I'm Jonah Lyson. I'm here to apply for a job. Sorry to bother you!"
"An interview? You should really go to HR for that…" Dawson Moore gave Jonah a puzzled look, then said, "Let me see your resume."
Jonah handed over his resume with both hands and stood quietly to the side, occasionally sneaking peeks at the pile of "big-headed doll" files on the desk. It seemed that Dawson genuinely cared about his patients, and Jonah couldn't help but feel a deep sense of respect.
Dawson didn't know what Jonah was thinking. He looked over the resume, pushed up his glasses, and said, "You graduated from Herton Medical University, but you don't really have any work experience. Maybe you should try a smaller hospital first?"
Jonah had expected this answer. He smiled and said, "Mr. Moore, who says I have no work experience? I just don't have any experience working in hospitals!"
"I know there are a lot of experts here, including you, Mr. Moore…" Jonah continued in before he could be interrupted, "But in some areas, I'm actually better than you all. For example, in the case of the 'big-headed doll'… I'm really confident I can handle it!"
Dawson's head shot up, surprise flashing in his eyes for a second before fading. He sighed. "Don't go bragging, young man. You have no idea how tough this disease is! We've never seen anything like it before, and we don't have any experience treating it. Still, I admire your gut. Good luck with your job search at other hospitals."
