"She's alive!"
"He saved that little girl's life!"
The nurses around stared at Nash in shock.
Jessie was just as stunned.
As a well-known physician at the central hospital, this was the first time in her life she'd ever seen anything so strange.
"Quick, get the oxygen tank!"
"The girl's stable now!"
"Get ready for the second surgery!"
As soon as they saw the girl was alive, the nurses immediately sprang back into action.
Nash just smiled, glanced at the girl being wheeled into the OR, and walked out of the ER.
The hospital continued its frantic pace.
About half an hour later, Jessie finally showed up in the hallway.
The way she looked at Nash was a little odd this time.
"The girl's stable now," Jessie said coolly as she walked over.
"Okay," Nash replied.
He was pretty confident in his skills.
As the former Medicine King, if he couldn't handle something like this, it'd be embarrassing.
"How did you bring her back to life?"
Jessie suddenly asked.
Nash grinned. "That's my secret!"
He figured Jessie would be like other girls and ask, "Hey, handsome, what's your secret? I really wanna know!"
But Jessie remained indifferent and walked off.
"This woman is so boring!"
Nash followed Jessie out of the hospital, and the two of them got in the car.
They got in and drove off, still not saying a word to each other.
Nash didn't even know where they were going. He just followed her lead.
"You haven't gotten into any trouble lately, have you?" Jessie suddenly asked while driving.
"Nope. Why?" Nash replied.
"You seem kinda different from before."
"Really? What was I like before?"
Nash wanted to know what the original owner of this body was like, but he didn't have any of the guy's memories.
"Never mind, forget it," Jessie said.
Nash felt a little deflated.
He'd hoped to find out more about this body's secrets, but now she wouldn't say anything.
"Anyway, thanks for today," she said.
"Thanks for saving someone's life, even if it was just dumb luck."
Nash rolled his eyes. "You think I just got lucky?"
"Today, come home with me," Jessie said.
"By the way, my parents still don't know about you getting locked up in the detention center."
"Got it. You want me to keep it a secret so you don't get embarrassed, right?" Nash laughed.
Jessie gave him a weird look. "Yeah, it's super embarrassing."
Nash thought her tone was strange, but Jessie didn't say anything else.
As they drove, Nash kept trying to remember anything about this body's past, but nothing came to him.
"Uh… can I ask you something?" Nash said hesitantly.
Jessie didn't even look at him.
"What is it?" she said coldly.
"Uh… what's your name again? Or how should I call you?"
Jessie suddenly turned and shot Nash a deadly glare.
Nash felt so wronged.
"Geez, if you don't wanna tell me, fine, but do you have to glare at me like that? I seriously don't know your name!" he thought.
Soon, the car pulled up to a fancy neighborhood in Westvale, Nytherea.
There were villas and apartment buildings, but Jessie lived in a three-story villa.
Nash looked at the house and muttered, "So this is my home? Not bad at all!"
The car came to a stop in front of the villa.
Jessie led the way, with Nash following and checking out the place.
"Jessie, you're finally back!" A woman in her fifties came out.
"Why were you so busy today? Your dad called you a bunch of times, and you didn't answer."
"The hospital was busy today," Jessie said as she walked in.
"So my wife's name is Jessie Ryder?" Nash thought to himself. "That's a great name."
Finally, Nash knew his wife's name.
"Mom, where's Dad?"
"He went to the cafe," Jessie's mother answered.
Listening to Jessie and her mother talk, Nash finally realized this stylish woman with heavy makeup was his mother-in-law.
Nash thought Jessie's appearance bore a resemblance to her mother.
Just as Nash was about to say something nice, Miranda, Jessie's mother, turned and fixed her gaze on him.
"What are you doing here?"
"Who let you into our house?"
"Didn't you say you'd never set foot in this house again?"
Miranda turned around and started insulting Nash.
Nash was thrown off by her yelling.
What was going on?
"Mom, I asked Nash to come back," Jessie stepped in.
"Why, Jessie? Why'd you let this loser come back?"
"Last time, he stormed off and nearly gave your dad a heart attack. And now you let this jerk back in?" Miranda complained.
"Enough, Mom. No matter what, he's still my husband!" Jessie sounded annoyed, so Miranda finally shut up, though she still gave Nash a death stare.
Nash finally got inside, but he was still feeling frustrated.
The villa was huge.
Jessie went straight upstairs to her room, leaving Nash downstairs with nothing to do.
He figured he'd find a spot to chill, eat some food, and maybe hang out with his wife.
But before he could even sit down, Miranda started scolding again.
"You think this is your house? Get in the kitchen and bring out the food!"
Nash decided to endure it.
"I'm the Medicine King of the Dragon Continent, no way I'm stooping to argue with some ordinary woman."
"The table's dirty! Go wipe it down!"
"Take your stinky shoes outside! They reek!"
"Can't you see those chairs need to be straightened?"
"You're so useless. What can you even do?"
Every insult hit Nash's ears.
He tried his best to hold it in, tamping down the rage.
Bam!
With a loud bang, Nash slammed his hand on the table so hard that it snapped in two.
All the food crashed to the floor.
"You crazy old hag, what's your problem? What did I ever do to you?"
"Screw this, I'm done being your live-in son-in-law!"
Nash threw down the rag.
