"Damn, having an ex-prisoner working in our department just makes me uncomfortable. It drives me crazy!" Ailee complained, visibly annoyed.
"Hold on!" Hogan lit a cigarette and took a deep drag.
"Think about it. The ex-prisoner just entered the company. But why did he end up joining the sales department with Annalise?"
"You think he's got something going on with Annalise?"
"Very likely!" Hogan nodded firmly.
"First, our sales department's always been short on people. Second, Annalise doesn't care where someone comes from, as long as they can make money."
"Didn't you say before? Pierce might be an ex-prisoner, but he's a top student. It makes sense Annalise would notice him."
"You've got a point." Ailee nodded along, though her expression grew more serious.
She gave Hogan a shove.
"Come on, let's get to work. As long as Pierce stays at the bottom of the sales rankings for three months straight, it doesn't matter what his relationship with Annalise is. He'll be out of here."
"You'd better work hard these next three months and stop stealing my sales every month. If you weren't dragging me down, my numbers would be just as good as Kevin's."
"Alright, alright, I got it," Hogan replied half-heartedly, then started the car.
"Oh, and give me that bonus. We still gotta save up for a house."
At Navy Technology, Pierce had been sitting at his desk all day.
Right before getting out of work, he got a call from Kailey. She apologized for leaving in the middle of things yesterday and invited him to dinner.
Pierce agreed. He needed to expand his network and make up for those three years, so his parents wouldn't have to face other people's judgment anymore.
After work, Pierce grabbed a cab and headed straight to Blossom Hotel.
Blossom Hotel was pretty famous in Tepvine. It's a four-star hotel with a modern garden vibe, and there are all kinds of fancy flowers and plants everywhere.
"Pierce? Is that you?"
A familiar voice called from behind just as Pierce was taking in the view.
He turned and saw Nancy.
Nancy was his college classmate. She was always just behind Pierce in their studies.
Their relationship was a little complicated.
After what happened yesterday, Pierce felt grateful to Nancy.
"What a coincidence." Pierce smiled slightly and walked up to her.
"Thank you for these past three years."
"No need to thank me. We're classmates, after all."
Nancy gave a soft smile, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, her fair complexion catching the light.
She was beautiful, though different from Estella. She was always a little distant, which made people think twice about getting close.
But now, when she smiled, the dimples made her look especially charming.
"Are you here for the class reunion too?" Nancy tried to change the subject, but as soon as she said it, she regretted it.
Why would Pierce have been invited to the class reunion?
"Reunion? You mean our college reunion?" Pierce frowned.
He hadn't heard anything about it.
"Well, since you know now, I might as well tell you." Nancy sighed.
"Estella set up the reunion. She probably wants to catch up with everyone before she gets married."
"Estella's the one who organized it? Perfect, I've been wanting to see her anyway." Pierce barely heard anything Nancy said after that.
He just wanted to ask Estella why she betrayed him.
"Pierce, don't do anything stupid, okay? Acting on impulse always comes with a price." Nancy grabbed his arm, her eyes full of worry.
She understood his anger, but she knew that adults had to take responsibility for their actions.
Getting thrown in jail over Estella just wasn't worth it.
"Do you want your parents to worry about you again?"
The anger in Pierce's eyes faded, and the veins in his forehead relaxed.
"Don't worry, I'm not going to do anything crazy. But there are things I have to say to her in person."
Pierce took a deep breath and tried to calm down.
"Take me with you. I promise I won't do anything impulsive."
"Alright." Still uneasy, Nancy felt a little more reassured and led Pierce into the hotel.
Estella went all out. She booked a private room called the Daisy Room. It could fit more than twenty people and had karaoke and a pool table.
"Hello, everyone." Nancy cautiously opened the door, greeting the group.
"Nancy, our star, come on in!"
"You're finally here."
Although Nancy kept a low profile in school, her beauty always stood out.
Now that she had started working, she looked even better.
"Estella, long time no see!"
Estella was about to give Nancy a big hug, but stopped when she saw who was behind her.
Her smile froze as she looked at Nancy, as if to ask why she'd brought Pierce.
"What? It's only been three years, and you don't recognize me?" Pierce glared at Estella, coldly spitting out the words.
Estella looked even more glamorous than three years ago.
She wore a yellow silk dress that hugged her curves, her wavy hair draping over her shoulders and falling into her neckline.
She wasn't exactly tall, but she was sexy.
"Pierce Jackson." Estella froze for a second but quickly composed herself, folding her arms under her chest, making her curves stand out even more.
"Didn't you get five years? How did you get out so fast? Did you break out of jail?"
"Whether I broke out or not isn't the point. Don't tell me you don't know why I went to jail."
Pierce narrowed his eyes, a cold glint flashing, his fists clenching.
Estella's reaction was indifferent.
"Of course I know," Estella smirked.
"Yeah, we had a thing three years ago, but once we graduated, we broke up. You just couldn't handle the breakup, so you took it out on my fiancé, Fernando Turner. Are you trying to get back together with me now?"
Estella shrugged, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Since we're former classmates, I'll let it slide. But don't even think about getting back together. Fernando and I are getting married soon. I hope you can move on."
"Get back together with you?" Pierce let out a laugh instead of getting mad.
After three years, Estella had gotten even more shameless.
Did she think he was that easy to mess with?
