"I have no wish to see blood today. End yourself."
Mateo looked at Jaden Waller as he spoke.
Just then, Melina Shadboult darted out and stepped in front of Jaden. Her slim back made one's heart ache.
"I won't let you kill him! Run!" She turned her head and shouted at Jaden.
She knew full well what a War God Level Martial Artist could do. The Shadboult family also worshiped one. In front of a War God Level Martial Artist, ordinary people were like ants. They had no chance to resist.
"Move."
"Don't think I'll spare you just because you're a Shadboult." Mateo's voice went cold.
"Melina Shadboult! Don't bring this on yourself. You want to offend the Farrell family and a War God Level Martial Artist for his sake?" Finnegan Farrell stepped out, smirking.
"You know your Shadboult family's situation. Among the Four Great Families, you've always been the weakest. If not for the old ties, the other three would've swallowed you whole by now. If you offend Elder Mateo today, you know full well what kind of trouble you'll bring down on the Shadboults. Think it through." Finnegan sneered.
"I won't move. If you've got the guts, kill me first and step over my body." Melina closed her eyes and spoke quietly.
The next second, Mateo struck.
"Since you're dead set on dying, I'll oblige you," he said.
Finnegan's grin widened. "Die."
Suddenly, Jaden Waller lunged and appeared right in front of Mateo. His speed hit the limit, like a ghost. The two locked eyes.
Mateo's eyes bulged. "How could you be faster than me!"
"I told you-anyone who lays a finger on her, I'll wipe out their entire clan." Jaden slowly reached out and clamped his hand around Mateo's throat. Then he twisted.
Snap!
Mateo's neck broke.
The crisp sound made everyone's skin crawl. A War God Level Martial Artist died, just like that.
Silence. Dead, suffocating silence. The entire Darion Group went still.
Melina covered her mouth, trembling. A War God Level Martial Artist died right in front of her. The Shadboults had only one such expert in their entire family. They sacrificed half their resources just to keep him worshiped and fed.
Finnegan stood frozen, pupils dilating. Staring at Elder Mateo's corpse on the floor, his shock and terror hit the ceiling. He didn't even trust his own eyes.
"You-you killed Elder Mateo! That's impossible! He was a War God Level Martial Artist! How did you do that!" Fear finally broke across Finnegan's face.
Too late.
Jaden appeared in front of him in the next heartbeat and, the same way as before, closed his hand around Finnegan's neck.
"Stop! You can't kill me! I'm the Farrell family's second young master! If you kill me, my father won't-"
Snap!
Jaden twisted. Finnegan's neck broke. He flung the body aside, tossing it into a corner.
He chose this clean way to kill, one after the other, because he didn't want a bloody mess. He didn't want to shock Melina.
Eugene Duffus and his son were stunned speechless. The reinforcements they'd scraped together were gone in an instant.
Eugene dropped to his knees. "I'm sorry, Jaden. I was an idiot. I shouldn't have called people. Give me another chance, please. I'll go raise the money right away. I swear I can get it in ten minutes! Don't kill me, please. I'll be your servant, pour your tea, carry water-"
"Your chance was only one." Jaden turned, looking at Eugene. "Your father taught me to be a man of my word."
Snap! Snap!
With two casual twists, Jaden killed the Duffus father and son. Then he faced the remaining employees. "Director Shadboult has resigned as of today. She'll be starting her own company soon. Anyone who wants to follow Director Shadboult is welcome."
"We're with Director Shadboult!" the nearby employees chimed in at once. They had had enough of the company's unspoken rules and exploitation.
Melina stood there, stunned, unsure what to do. She stared at Jaden's back, a little lost, a little unfamiliar. In five years, too much must have happened. Otherwise a person wouldn't change this much.
"Hungry?" Jaden turned to her.
"Ah?" Melina blinked, then nodded lightly. "A little."
"Come on. I'll take you to eat." Jaden walked over and took her hand. They left the Darion Group.
Not long after, news of Finnegan's death reached the Farrell family.
Inside the Farrell Residence's main hall, gloom hung thick.
"In just that short a while, my Finnegan is dead! Dead! Who did it? Who!" The family head, Zion Farrell, roared, voice tearing.
His shout carried through the entire residence.
"Father, it was Jaden Waller! That bastard from the Waller family-he's back! Second Brother went to avenge me alone, and… and I didn't expect it! Jaden actually dared kill in public! I shouldn't have let him go. I should've stopped him. I'm sorry, Father. I'm sorry. I got Second Brother killed." On the wheelchair sat a young man, wracked with remorse-Emilio Farrell, Finnegan's elder brother.
"Send men out now. Turn the city upside down and find him. I'll gut him myself!" Keenan Farrell slammed his palm onto the table and shattered the wood, fury boiling over.
"Big Brother, calm down." Jaylen Farrell spoke up-the Farrell family's second-in-command, Keenan's younger brother and uncle to Emilio and Finnegan, and one of the family's four patron protectors. Among the four, he was the strongest, a high-tier War God Level Martial Artist. The Farrells owed much of their might to Jaylen.
"Elder Mateo was a War God Level Martial Artist. How could a punk beat him?" Zion Farrell said, unwilling to believe it.
"I'm puzzled too," Jaylen replied. "Precisely because we don't know what happened, we can't rush in blind."
"Second Uncle, are we just going to watch while Finnegan dies with his eyes open? Are the Farrells supposed to fear a stray dog?" Emilio practically rose from his wheelchair. "If word gets out, people will laugh at us! Second Uncle-my legs, he broke them back then! Even if we hack him into a thousand pieces, it won't quench my hatred!"
"Shut up! Why didn't you report this to me first? How could you let Finnegan go off on his own!" Keenan roared.
"I'm sorry, Father. I didn't expect that stray dog to become this strong-and to dare kill so brazenly." Emilio lowered his head.
"But Jaden Waller vanished for five years. Why did he suddenly return? Is he trying to take revenge on our Four Great Families?" Emilio asked, baffled.
"Impossible. With just one man, taking on all Four Great Families? That's a fool's dream," Jaylen said with disdain.
"Then what did he come back for?" Emilio pressed.
"For that Shadboult girl," Jaylen said.
