Ronnie and his grandson walked over, wondering if Jodie could really come back to life.
Cecilia nervously held Carver's hand.
She was only worried that Carver might shirk responsibility.
Three minutes quickly passed.
Joshua could no longer bear the grief of "losing" his granddaughter and grabbed Carver again, "What now? Give me back my granddaughter!"
"Old Joshua, calm down."
Cecilia quickly tried to persuade, but Joshua didn't listen to anyone.
Seeing that Joshua was really going to fight Carver, Liz exclaimed, "Is there something in Miss Jodie's neck?"
Joshua went over and found that Jodie's neck was squirming, as if something was crawling inside.
Carver whispered, "Quiet!"
Seeing Carver looking serious, everyone temporarily closed their mouths, and Joshua restrained the grief without speaking.
Half a minute passed, Jodie's mouth was forced open. Then, a thumb-thick, bright red, and ugly worm crawled out from inside. Cecilia and Liz quickly covered their mouths, preventing themselves from screaming...
After the worm crawled out and fell to the ground, Carver quickly approached and stomped on it.
With a "puff," the worm turned into a puddle of blood.
Exhaling a breath, Carver squatted down and tapped Jodie a few times. Although Jodie had been lifeless, she suddenly coughed, and her heartbeat, pulse, and breathing began to recover.
After a dumbfounded three seconds, Joshua's face turned ecstatic, "Jodie!"
Grandpa Ronnie and his grandson, Cecilia, all looked at Carver in amazement and confusion.
Carver said, "In some places in the southwest tribal area, strangers should not approach. When Miss Jodie and others traveled two years ago, they probably accidentally trespassed into such an area and were infected by the Heart-Devouring Insect raised by the villagers. This kind of insect varies from person to person, but generally, there are two situations: either death or madness."
"Moreover, any examination methods cannot detect them. They hide and evade in the body, and only two methods can lure them out."
"One is for the person who raised the insect to take action, and the other is for the host to die. Because these insects mostly parasitize on living bodies."
"So, just now, my seemingly violent attack on Miss Jodie was just to induce a false death state in her and deceive the insects into coming out."
At this point, Jodie's eyes cleared, and she weakly asked, "Grandpa, what happened to me?"
The old man in his seventies could no longer hold back, hugging her tightly, "It's over, finally over."
However, even though Jodie had regained consciousness, Carver's recent beating had left her with injuries. With her eyes closed, she fainted.
Joshua anxiously shouted, "Jodie!"
Carver said, "She's too weak. With proper recuperation, she'll be back to normal. old Joshua, don't worry."
Gratefully, Joshua said, "Dr. Larsen, thank you. Joshua's Pharmacy will be yours in the future. I'll take care of Jodie for two days, and then I'll go through the procedures with you. I can't entertain you today; I want to take care of Jodie's body first."
"No problem, old Joshua, you're busy for now. We won't disturb you."
Naturally, holding Cecilia's hand, Carver was about to leave, not worrying that Joshua would change his mind later. A doctor who could go this far for his family would have no issues with his character.
"Dr. Larsen, wait," Ronnie spoke up.
Seeing Carver's skills firsthand, he thought that seeking Carver's help might be better than asking Joshua for medical treatment.
Joshua understood Ronnie's thoughts and didn't feel upset. He helped Jodie up and sent her back to the room.
Turning back, Carver said, "Ronnie, is there something you need?"
"I have been unwell recently, and the doctor said that I am already at the end of my life. But I still have unfinished business. I would like to ask Dr. Larsen to extend my life!"
Looking deeply at Ronnie, Carver said, "Prepare 100 million, and after I come back from Whitecloud City, we'll talk."
Leaving with a puzzled Cecilia, they left Ronnie and his grandson standing there.
Liz, however, was a bit trance-like, "Grandpa, did he just say he wants 100 million?"
Before, the Hartley family had consulted many renowned doctors, but most only dared to ask for tens of millions to hundreds of thousands.
Asking for 100 million was somewhat unbelievable to Liz.
At this time, Joshua walked out and smiled, taking over the conversation, "Liz, just now, Dr. Larsen saved Jodie, and I have to pay a property worth 250 million. Compared to that, is 100 million much?"
Liz is a thoughtful and clever girl, and she immediately understood, "I get it."
100 million is a lot, but compared to Ronnie's life, it is insignificant.
Ronnie smiled and patted his granddaughter's shoulder, "It's good that you understand. When Dr. Larsen comes back, you can find him. Also, check when there was such a young person in Jefpombert City."
"At the same time, it's convenient for us to make friends with Dr. Larsen. A skilled doctor is more precious than getting ten billion!"
Money is a good thing.
But when it comes to dying, money may not save your life, but a skilled doctor can!
...
"Aren't you coming home with me, in-laws?"
In the evening, Cecilia dropped Carver off at the intersection near his home and asked him to leave the car. Cecilia, who was a bit more awkward, couldn't help but tease him.
Cecilia gave him a blank look, "With your thick skin now, do you dare to come home with me...?" As she spoke, she realized something was wrong, blushing, she patted Carver, "What are you saying? You haven't even successfully pursued me. You should call them uncle and auntie, not in-laws. You rascal!"
That cute expression made Carver unable to resist asking, "Honey, can I kiss you?"
Cecilia's face turned even redder, her voice weak, like a mosquito, "What are you saying?"
"You can't come, then I'll go home."
Carver laughed, pushed open the car door, and got out, waving, "Be careful on your way back. We'll have a date when I come back from Whitecloud City."
Unexpectedly, Carver just left like that.
Cecilia raised her head and, feeling something was wrong, her face turned red. She slapped Carver, "You idiot! How can you ask me whether you can kiss me? How should I answer?"
Carver heard it and turned around, "So, you mean I can just kiss you directly? I'll make up for it now."
"Ah... you daydreamer." Cecilia, who couldn't wait for Carver to come back and kiss her, quickly stepped on the gas and drove away.
As she drove away, she realized she had forgotten to ask Carver what he was going to do in Whitecloud City and why he asked someone to prepare 100 million for Ronnie's illness. Wasn't that too much?
Carver smiled as he watched the car go far away before heading home.
Seeing him come back, Adela immediately stood up, "Carver, that..."
Carver interrupted her, "Mom, if you want to talk about Uncle's family, don't mention it. I have my rules for practicing medicine. Every person in Uncle's family is not worth saving, even if they are my relatives!"
With a bitter expression, Adela said, "So I don't ask you to cut off ties with Uncle's heartless family. Please don't force me to do something I don't want to do."
Then Carver went into the house, showing his attitude through actions.
Adela shed tears, "How can I explain this to Potter and the others?"
She and Cornelia and Idan were not compatible, and she didn't want to make Potter and his wife sad. So, she promised them that she would convince Carver.
