"This is not the right way, Kane. The path you are choosing will bring more tears, heartbreak, and disaster. Eventually, it will lead to the death of everyone. And as for me trying to get into your head so you could set me free, is not the fact. You can keep me or kill me, or do anything you want. I don't care what happens to me,e bt I'm talking about those that will be caught in between the war when it starts.
Think again!"
She persuaded.
"I have heard enough. No more words from you!" He shouted in anger.
The rest of the journey ended in silence. She never said a word again, and neither was a word heard from him.
Just at the outskirts of the Nazan settlement, Kane's half-brother wolf, Tanak, was waiting to meet him. He and three other wolves have been waiting for almost three hours. He had sent two wolves to track his brother to see how he would lure and capture the witch who had killed their father.
Tanak has always been suspicious of Kane's moves and association with the humans. He almost caught his brother one day in the woods, where Clara was displaying her art of magic to entertain him. Only
Kane's quick effort saved them and their little secret romance from being exposed. Before Tanak could approach them, Clara had ended her little magic stunt and had hidden at the secluded back of a very.
Large tree. Tanak smelled the air. He could taste the presence of a human within, with his acute wolf ability. But before he could fish out Clara, Kane intervened, talking some sense into him and convincing his doubtful half-brother that he was alone.
"Finally, big brother is home,'' began Tanak on sighting Kane and his prisoner. "Brother, you got her! The bastard that killed our father,'' he eased a fake smile as he spoke.
"Yes, we got her!" Kane replied with a cold voice that was also marred by disappointment.
He was aware of his half-brother's evil intentions. Tanak would have served jungle justice on Clara without minding the hierarchy of power that exists among the alphas of the Nazan wolf clan. Kane knew
this and that's why he wasn't too excited to see his brother coming out to welcome him.
"What are we waiting for, Kane? Let's execute her right away!" Tanak signaled one of his men. "Kill her at once. She deserves to die like a dog that she is!''
Just as one of Tanak's men advanced with a Tagma (A special kind of weapon that looked like a sword and was thought to have some magical powers only when used by werewolves), Kane intervened.
"Stop!" Kane shouted. "Don't touch her. Not here and not now!"
"She is a murderer, Kane! Are you trying to show sympathy to this witch? The same witch who had your father killed in cold blood?" Entered Tanak. "Let's have her killed here, and no one will ever hear about her again. Let her legacy end here and now!"
"And my answer to that is still no! I can't let that happen. Look here, Tanak," Kane pointed his fingers at his half-brother wolf. "We have a council of alphas that will determine her fate and not you. The order
is not for you to give! So get that right, little brother."
"What nonsense are you talking about, Kane? The council will surely pass a death sentence on her. Why waste any further time? If you are having a kind of pity on him, then consider what I'm about to do to
her right now a big favor," Tanak grinned at Clar, who had been silent ever since the two brothers were talking. "She wouldn't have to die very painfully after all if we had executed at the spot,'' he
glanced at the other wolves as if he was teasing to solicit some support and approval from them.
"My answer is still a loud no! She must not be executed here or now. We have a justice system. You and I know we can't disregard them. I would advise you to sheath your sword, a there will be no
shedding of blood until the council, to be headed by me, decides so," Kane countered.
"Can I ask you a question, Kane?''
"Yes, go ahead! I'm listening."
"Do you think she would show you any mercy i she were in your shoes? If you think you are smart, then answer me. And who cares what the other alphas have to say? This is personal now!" Tanak makes
An advancement to kill Clara.
"No, stop! Exclaimed Kane. "One more step and you will have me to contend with. I'm warning you! This is no place for this. And it's not in your position to determine who will die like a dog."
"Traitor! Traitor! You will surely regret the wrong steps you are taking, no,w Kane!" he storms out with his men, leaving Kane, Clara, and his loyal wolves.
First, she was kept in the wolf's prison. A wide hole under the ground. Luckily, wide enough for good ventilation. The top, however, was left bare, leaving any prisoner at the mercy of the harsh sun during
the day and the very cold weather at night. The trees surrounding the isolated prison make it likely that, creeping creatures like snakes, could easily find their way down to the uncovered prison. Here,
Clara was kept awaiting her fate at the hands of the angry werewolves.
For some moments, she thought about escaping, but remembered she was not with her magic tools to invoke her powers, except for the tiny necklace worn on her neck. The power in the necklace is limited.
And may not prove too useful in serving her purpose.
'Anyway, I can do this the other way round,' she told herself before, using the muscular coordination in her neck to move her silver necklace closer to her mouth since her hands were tied behind her back
so she couldn't use them. Once her necklace came into contact with her saliva, she began saying some magical incantations to free her tied hands.
"I, the daughter of the great witch Ferahon! The one who hears the voices in the wind. The great-granddaughter of Uriel summons your presence. These hands of mine, tied behind my back. Freedom I seek.
Release by the power of the earth, I command thee. So mote it be!"
At once, the rope on her hands splits open, and her hands are free. She looked upwards and began saying another magical spell to escape from the wolf's prison.
"Wing to fly. Earth to touch. Tear apart thy Shackles and body on thy land I seek. So mote it be!''
She waited for some seconds, bu, nothing seemed to be working. She repeated her abracadabra, but nothing occurred. She tried one more time but ended up with the same result.
Her power had failed her this time. She wondered why she was imprisoned there, with no guard to watch over her. She reasoned maybe that it had a connection with her, not being able to escape with the
help of her magic power. Sheaimss to fly upwards and out through the open space. Was she also held prisoner by a powerful werewolf's spell?
