Kane's fury knew no bounds. He quickly grabbed Tanak by the throat, and the two wolves rolled on the ground in a fierce battle. The other alphas, while in their lycanthrope state, simply backed off and watched the whole scene unfold. They dared not intervene since it was a family matter. Again, confronting the soon-to-be alpha supreme was an unwise decision.
He choked Tanak and threw him across a short distance. Only when he realized that Tanak had accepted defeat did he stop further attacks. He howled and transformed back to his human state, and so did the rest of the alphas, including Tanak.
"The next time you talk to me in such manner, I will have no choice but to incur the wrath of the moon goddess on you,'' Kane maintained a finger at Tanak as he spoke, which serves as a severe warning.
"She will not be killed until we get enough evidence that she was behind the death of my father. All we have to do right now is to keep her in our captivity, while we deliberate on how to respond to the atrocity committed by the witches against us.''
"You may have won this time, Kan, but remember nothing lasts forever,'' began Tanak. "I will stop at nothing to see that the right justice is served to the person or persons behind this horrible crime," he
began walking out on them.
"Wa, it's Tanak! I hope you are aware of the fatal mistake you are about to make?" Kane stood up as ifweree is about to follow suit.
Slowly, the other alphas left the scene, leaving only Kane standing. It was almost dusk. Meaning, this could be the right time to speak with Clara again. He walked slowly down the wolf's prison where Clara
was held. She was bound to a powerful spell that prevented her from escaping.
She spotted him standing outside the pit. They stared at each other for some seconds before Clara ended the silence.
"Have you come to take me out for the slaughter wolf?'' She stared continuously.
"Tell me, how long were you aware of this whole plan to assassinate my father? Why did you keep that a secret if you want me to believe your innocence? Oh! I remember. You will end up telling me
again, how you hid that from me to avoid war,'' he squatted down closer to the edge of the pit.
"Kane, believe me. I was planning to tell you, but I figured the right time had not come to make it open to you. I miscalculated my assessment. I never knew her plan was imminent. That was one of the mistakes I made, and I take responsibility for that,'' she looked at him intensely. "Now tell me, what's my fate? Am I getting hanged?''
"Not yet, Clara! Not yet! My brothers sought to have you killed because they strongly believed you were behind my father's murder."
"But you don't believe the,m do y, ou Kane?''
Kane remained silent. He was unsure of what to answer her.
"I don't have any answer to that question yet. From my point of view, I found it difficult to believe that you could carry out such an awful crime despite our secret vows and commitment. Is it so hard and
unthinkable!''
"That's why you should help me get out of this place and prove my innocence. I promise to help you and avenge your father's death!''
"How dare you, Clara!" He explodes in obvious frustration. "Does this look like a joke to you? How in the hell am I going to believe you could help me avenge my father's death? How will I be
able to trust you that this is not yet another trap to inflict more devastating blows to our wolf clan?"
"You just admitted you don't believe your wolf brothers that I'm not capable of working against you. Oh yes, you did! You said you found it very difficult to believe them,'' she reminded him. "Look, I know that
it's hard for you to believe me on this, but trust me, I can never do anything to jeopardize your life, nor will I ever work against you. Remember you once said, I'm yours to be? Although I know it's a
Forbidden love, but I'm willing to take the risk for your sake. Kane, you are my happiness, and there is no way I will trade that for anything else."
"Enough!'' He interfered. "I have heard enough crabs from you. Enough damage has been done, and it is capable of destroying everything I have built with you in the past,'' he stood and gazed at her
furiously. "How exactly are you going to do that?''
"What is that?''
"Oh! You seemed to have forgotten the promise you just made not long ago? Just to remind you again, how are you going to help me avenge my father's death when the perpetrator is your mother, as you
had alleged? Or have you forgotten that? Will you have her killed by your hands? At last, is it proven to be behind that? Huh?'' He sighed. "Cla,ra, we both know that is not possible. You can never go against your mother because of me. That's the truth. It hurts, but there is nothing you can do if we find ourselves in such a scenario.''
"What if you are wrong, ong Kane?" She spoke with confidence. "What if you are wrong the whole time? If this is what it takes to prove my undying love for Alphaalpha Kane, then so be it! I'm willing to do anything to clear your doubts and to show you just how loyal I have been to you.''
Clara knew she had said virtually everything to make a change of heart. Who knows if his sudden silence has anything to do with the words she had just told him. She does not know, but can only
Hope for the best.
She kept looking at Kane, hoping just to hear him utter his next line, but that never came quickly as she had expected. Therefore, she continued pouring tender words into his heart.
"Remember you once told me that you can never do anything to jeopardize my life, now tell me, why has that changed?'' Not that she doesn't know what else to tell him, but she needed to say something that would make him talk.
"Ye, I made that promise to you, no doubt about that. Nevertheless, I can't honor that again. Let the will of the alphas prevail over you.''
"You know I'm telling you the truth, why can't you just do the right thing?'' Clara is becoming more frustrated. "I can't persuade you anymore, but I'm quite sure you know the truth. Let your conscience judge
you. I will tell you for one last time, I'm innocent. I didn't murder your father!''
He makes a few steps back as if he is about to leave. "I think I have overstayed my welcome, Clara. I have to leave you now. I wish this had ever happened in the first place. Right now, I'm stuck in a position
where I can hardly do anything. I can't incur the wrath of other packs that make up the Nazan clan by setting you free on my own."
"Alright, I have heard you, but tell me, do you believe my innocence now?''
"I wish I could, Clara!'' He bent his head slightly. "I have to leave right now."
"Wait!" Clara called him back. "What did you do up here?''
"You tried to escape, didn't you, Clara? I'm afraid I can't tell you. This is one of the top secrets of the werewolf's world, and I can never reveal that to you as long as we are foes."
Ignoring his brief answer, she proceeded with her second question. Something told her he was lying and therareis werewolves' secrets whatsoever as he had claimed. "You had this isolated area held in a
Darkspell didn't you, Kane?"
"Any problems with that?''
There are no problems with that, but never forget I taught you the art of dark magic in those days when our love blossomed. Even though this is rare, I passed unto you that which is
forbidden. I can't believe my hard work has been against me?''
"I know you would attempt to escape. I don't want to take chances, and that's why I had this spell that you have taught me to cast over your place of confinement.'' He turned to leave but made an abrupt
stop. "Oh, thank you for the knowledge, it's really helpful."
"Have you ever thought about the possibility of incurring the wrath of your moon goddess for using a power that was not originally yours? Have you thought about that, Kane?''
"Look, I'm not the one who should be scared right now. You are the one who should be worried at this moment. Cut the crab and don't divert any attention. Why are you so concerned about me when
your life is in danger? This doesn't make any sense."
"No! It does. I taught you the art quite alright, but I never told you the consequences of using dark magic, especially when you are not a witch. Please do away with it as soon as possible."
"Clever! I see!'' Exclaimed Kane. "Just another ploy to escape,e right? Tell me, if I have them taken away from you, you would escape, won't you? No, oh, Clara, that's so foolish of you if you think you can ever convince me to take that away from here. Speaking of the consequences of this dark magic, I don't care to know them as long as it serves its purpose." He began leaving witholookingook at her again.
Clara found herself once again all alone in the wolf's confinement, awaiting her unknown fate. Kane has not made it clear to her what type of punishment awaits her, although it is likely to be death. She wondered why she had taught Kane the art of dark magic, which was very essential to their existence as witches. She did that because she had no thought whatsoever that one day her wolf mate would
use that against her. How wrong she was. She regretted, as every minute that passed, sed I greeted her with her silence. She was lost in her thoughts. She remembered how it all started, and it pained her the more to see how it's about to end.
Suddenly, she stood to her feet and echoed her thought out, 'I must look for a way to escape.'
Almost immediately, she finished speaking, a voice above the pit echoed her words with contempt.
"Yes, I have come to help you escape,'' said the voice.
