Chapter 3: Friend

Roma (Point of view) "Alpha Joe is now a rogue. Along with his family. They ask for permission to join our pack while they are in town." I told Drew, my beta. "Well, he is a powerful man, but you need to be careful to trust him. He had some serious problems. Moreover, he is a rogue now, isn't that a little bit suspicious?" Drew responded doubtfully. Honestly, I didn't like the idea of an alpha in my pack and a regular member. Alpha's envisage a lot of power and respect and I have no intention to respect anyone other than my father. "He must be in trouble and he must need backup. He is harmless Drew, so I will give him a chance. But any mistake and he is dead." I responded in a serious tone. The last thing I needed was another problem with former rogues. I hated rogues to bits. Especially after my mother's death. The only reason I let Alpha Joe in my territory was because he was nothing but a worthy man. A man of respect and always there to help neighboring packs when they were in need. My pack is inclusive. "Then I will show him and his family around now. See you in a few hours." Drew said and with a nod walked away. Arlene (Point of view) Drew, the beta of the pack showed us around. I didn't want to be here. Both Drew, the beta, and Roman, the alpha, didn't want us here. Not that I was surprised by their apparent disapproval of our I needed to join their pack, but they were both jerks, and I could not dismiss them. I met Roman once. When he needed help from my father (alpha business), I never really cared to find him, even though I was the heir to the alpha throne of my pack. But then, I was 15, and Roman, being older than me, at the time was 19. Now I was 17 and supposed to return to my pack to lead after my eighteenth birthday. I was never supposed to leave with my parents, I just couldn't bear the thought of my mother being away from me for what felt like was going to be a long time. So I promised to return right after my eighteenth birthday. I dread that day. "I have a room for you with the girls in the female pack house," Drew said suddenly disturbing my thoughts while he surged around quicker than I liked. "Will you slow down!" I complained. "Well, you are under my orders now so you might as well suck it in. You are not an heir around here girl." He spat back at me without looking back while he said it. "Will you try being nicer? You are just the beta here. Not even your alpha scares me." I told him now looking him in the eye. I thought I saw him flinch which suddenly turned into a smirk. Jerk. "Idio," I said under my breath, but loud enough for him to hear while I now walked into the room. It was nice. I had to admit. It looked very comfortable and the bed looked like one of the few reasons I would enjoy being here. I laughed to myself. Drew looked at me, puzzled. "This is Lenny," Drew said introducing me to a pretty dark-skinned girl. Probably 17 like me. She had thick curly dark brown hair that just made her beautiful face look like an azalea. A face stuck in a crowd of long curly locks of brown hair. It took me a minute to realize I was studying her face intently. She was beautiful. With dark grey eyes almost popping out of her face. It took her to say 'hello' with a smooth musical voice to bring me back to reality. "Oh I am so sorry," I pleaded. "I am Arlene Stevens," I responded breathlessly. It was a first for me. To meet a dark-skinned werewolf. An incredibly beautiful one at that. "I'm Lenny Martins," she said with a smile friendly and warm. That afternoon, Lenny and I spoke about each other. Instantly clicking and enjoying each other's company. She had been a rogue too. But the alpha could not resist her beauty. Because from the look on her face whenever he came up in conversation, she seemed to like him. Such a shame he was not her mate I thought to myself sadly. "Lenny, I need to speak to you now," Roman demanded that evening, standing by the door of our room. I rolled my eyes trying to ignore remembering our first encounter. He had shown me just how arrogant he was. But I did wonder what he had going on with Lenny.
