Chapter 4: Loss

I could hear indistinct muttering between Roman and Lenny. I don't know what it was but he seemed very stressed as he spoke. Something did not feel right. "What are you talking about?" I walked out rudely interrupting them. "You do not know how to give privacy, do you?" Roman responded inflamed rather than angry, referring to our last encounter. Lenny just stared curiously. "For your information, your father brought rogues to my property. He is, as we speak, having a heated discussion with them. Which clearly won't last long because I am going to show him what happens to people who betray me. Especially people like you, beggars!" He said sounding much angrier. "How?" I whispered to myself quivering. The show was not meant for Roman to explain what he would do, but to understand what my father was doing. Roman answered anyway, "Why don't you come and see for yourself?" Lenny was right by my side now. 'Mother', I mindlinked her almost shouting in my head. 'Mother, where are you?' 'In the room.' She responded frantically realising the urgency in my voice. 'What's wrong my darling?' 'What is going on with father?' I questioned slowly. Right before she could respond, Roman walked away, seeing that I was at that moment communicating with someone. Which he found rude. I walked too, following his steps right behind him with Lenny next to me like a shield. Right at that moment, Drew appeared from nowhere. Seeing that Roman had company, his mind linked with him because you could see the stress in their faces as we walked. I shuddered, 'Father, answer me please.' Nothing. 'Father please.' I reiterated. Nothing. At this moment, no one was around me. I started to run. Fast. Without letting my wolf take over. I ran until I smelt him. Felt him. Right there when I got there, he turned to look at me with worry in his face. He was with several men, about ten if I saw that right. Men whom I recognized as former pack members. All looking worried. From the left side, Roman Drew and some other members of his pack arrived. But before Roman could confront my father and the other men, what happened to be a rogue jumped out of the direction I did not see, and went straight at Roman's group of men to attack. It was a blur. Most of it anyway. All I knew was, at that moment, that the wolf that attacked was one I did not know or recognize. Something was not right. Within five minutes, a whole group of estranged rogues were at it with Roman and his pack members, who by then had all shifted to defend themselves. My father's men attacked too to stop the strangers from hurting Roman's men. But what was perplexing in the whole situation was my father, just standing there, looking in utter shock. More so, none of the strange wolves tried to attack him. Within fifteen minutes, my body was quivering and shaking like a leaf. All the strange men were down, either injured or dead(Roman men included). I looked up at my father when right then, a large dark grey wolf jumped right at him pulling out his head and tossing it away from his body. I fell to the ground in pain. My wolf still wouldn't take over. I sat there confused when I heard a cry behind me. The voice was oh so familiar. It was my mother. I turned to gaze at her when, right then, she shifted in pursuit to attack the wolf that had decapitated my father. Before she could reach it, a big brown wolf pulled her back, doing the same thing that was done to my father. I cried out loudly. Letting my emotions take me. I kept asking myself what just happened here. I did not understand what my father was doing out here, more so why wolves attacked each other without just cause as it seemed to me. I could feel my tears falling on my cheeks one after the other. Like running water. Moments later, I looked at the wolves that had attacked both my parents. Neither of them was big. Bigger than most of the other wolves around. This gave it away. It answered my question. Roman and Drew had attacked and killed my parents. Right in my eyes. Without a just explanation from my father. I was emasculated. Waiting for my death, but it didn't come. I later woke up in a small room. I felt incredibly claustrophobic just looking around it. The room was grey, and right at the top were tiny windows. One thing was for sure, I was not leaving this place any time soon. Wherever I happened to be anyway. I changed my position and sat at the back of the room, right in the middle of the wall I leaned against. I put my head on my knees wrapping my arms around my legs. Right then, like he knew I was awake, Roman walked in, looking at me with furious eyes and a touch of hatred in them.
