"Grandma, I can," Mila Hai responded casually. Although Grandma Zhan was very kind to her, William Zhan was her grandson, and she was just her grandson's wife. Would the Zhan family favor her if the couple had a conflict? Mila Hai didn't believe it.
Just like her in-laws. Before marriage, they were so nice to them that their biological daughters were jealous. After getting married, their demeanor changed. Every time Anna and her husband had a conflict, her mother-in-law would accuse Anna of not being a good wife. Therefore, the son was always a relative, and the daughter-in-law was always an outsider.
"You have to go to work. Grandma won't disturb you anymore. I'll tell William to pick you up and have dinner with you in the evening."
"Grandma, I will close the store very late at night. Maybe it's not convenient to go back for dinner. Is it okay on weekends?"
During school holidays on weekends, these bookstores relied on the school for business. Their business slowed down during school holidays, and they didn't even need to open their doors, so she had the time.
"Also," Grandma Zhan said, "We'll talk about it this weekend. You have to be busy first."
She took the initiative to end the call. Mila Hai, however, did not go to the store right away. Instead, she sent a message to her friend Judy Shen. She would return to the store before the students left school at noon.
After finishing the significant event in her life, she had to go back and tell Anna and then move out of Anna's house.
Ten minutes later, Mila Hai returned to Anna's home. Her brother-in-law had already gone to work, and Anna was drying clothes on the balcony. When she saw her coming back, she asked with concern, "Mila, why are you back? Aren't you going to open the store today?"
"I'll go there at noon. I'm busy at noon. Is Ethan still awake?"
Ethan Zhou is Mila Hai's nephew. He is just two years old now, which is the age when he is naughty.
"Not yet. If he wakes up, the house won't be so quiet."
Mila Hai went to help Anna dry her clothes and asked about what happened last night.
"Mila, your brother-in-law is not trying to drive you away; he is under too much pressure, and I have no income," Anna Hai explained to her husband.
Mila Hai said nothing, so her brother-in-law drove her away in disguise.
Her brother-in-law worked as a manager in a company and had a high income. He and Anna were college classmates and initially worked in the same company. Later, they got married. After the marriage, her brother-in-law said to Anna affectionately, "I will support you from now on. Rest at home and prepare for pregnancy."
Anna Hai felt she had married the right person, so she quit her job and went home to be a housewife. A year after the marriage, she gave birth to a big fat boy. She had to raise a baby and take care of the family, which made her so busy that she no longer had time to dress up or take good care of herself. With her body out of shape, she could not escape and return to the workplace.
In three years, Anna has transformed from that young and beautiful beauty into a plump, casually dressed homemaker who doesn't like dressing up.
There is a five-year age difference between Mila Hai and Anna. When she was ten, her parents died in a car accident. From the beginning, she and Anna depended on each other.
The compensation after their parents' car accident was initially enough for the sisters to complete their studies, but their grandparents asked for part of it, and their grandparents also asked for part of it. With the remaining money, the sisters lived frugally and survived until they graduated from college.
Mila Hai's sister loved her very much. She agreed with her brother-in-law before the marriage that she would live with her after the wedding. The brother-in-law readily agreed, but now he dislikes her living here.
"Anna, I'm sorry, I'm the one dragging you down."
"No, Mila, don't think like that. Your parents passed away early, and I will be your support."
Mila Hai was moved. When she was a child, Anna was her support. Now, she wants to be Anna's support.
After a moment of silence, she took out her marriage certificate, handed it to Anna, and said, "Anna, I'm getting married. I just got the marriage certificate. I'll let you know when I get it. I'll pack it up and move it later."
"Are you married?"
Anna Hai's voice was raised several dozen decibels, and it couldn't be exaggerated to say she was screaming.
She looked at Anna in disbelief and quickly grabbed the marriage certificate. She opened it and saw a wedding photo of Anna and a strange man.
"Mila Hai, what's going on? Don't you even have a boyfriend?"
The man on the marriage certificate was good-looking, but his eyes were sharp, and his expression was too cold. At first glance, he was not easy to get along with.
On the way back, Mila Hai thought of the words and said immediately, "Anna, I have been dating my boyfriend for a long time. His name is William Zhan, but he is too busy with work and has never been able to come back with me to meet you, Anna.”
"He proposed to me, and I agreed to him. Then, we went to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get a marriage certificate. Anna, he is a very good man and treats me very well. Don't worry, I will definitely be happy after marriage."
Anna Hai still couldn't accept it.
She had never heard Anna say she had a boyfriend, but now she says she is married.
Thinking of the quarrel between the couple last night, Anna had heard about it. Anna Hai was so sad that her eyes turned red, and she said, "Mila, I told your brother-in-law that you paid for the food. You can rest assured and stay."
"You don't have to be in a hurry to get married or move out in a hurry."
She dared to say that Anna's boyfriend wouldn't have known her for a long time. Otherwise, Anna would have told her long ago.
She suddenly got married today because her husband disliked Anna for living here for too long, so Anna got married in a hurry to prevent her marriage from being a red flag.
Mila Hai smiled and comforted Anna, "Anna, it really has nothing to do with you. William Zhan and I have a very good relationship, and I will really be happy. Anna, you should be happy for me."
Anna Hai kept crying.
Mila Hai hugged Anna helplessly. After she finished crying and calmed down, she promised, "Anna, I will come back to see you often. William Zhan's house was bought in Minyuan Garden, which is not far from your place. I ride a battery scooter, and it’s only ten minutes away.”
"What's going on at his home?"
The deal was done, so Anna Hai could only accept it and asked about her brother-in-law's family situation.
Mila Hai didn't know much about the Zhan family. Although she had known Grandma Zhan for three months, she usually didn't ask about the Zhan family's affairs. When Grandma Zhan told her, she listened. She only knew that William Zhan was the eldest in the family, and many younger brothers (including cousins) were underneath.
William Zhan worked for one of the top large groups in Guan City, had a car and a house, and she expected that his family conditions would not be too bad. So Mila Hai told her sister what she knew.
Hearing that her brother-in-law bought the house with full payment, Anna Hai said, "That is his pre-marital property, Mila. Can you ask him to add your name to the property certificate?"
It was safer with Mila Hai's name added to the real estate certificate.
