Chapter 9 Home?

by S. Q 16:48,Oct 09,2020
Seated in the Lu’s car heading toward Wen Family, Gwen felt excited. Even though that place was more like a desert to her now, but her mother was there, and her heart leaped at the thought of seeing her soon.

Soon, the car came to a halt at the gate of Wen’s villa, Gwen ran out of the car, ran to the front door and rang the doorbell eagerly.

"Who the hell would come visit me this early in the morning..."
Susan Zhang came down the stairs wearing a face mask and opened the door impatiently; her original casualness and elegance paused for a second at the sight of Gwen.

"Gwen Wen, how did you get out?"

How could Gwen, who had been sentenced to 10 years in prison, come out now; It had just been three years?

Susan Zhang looked at her, with her expression changing subtly from surprise to panic and then a trace of guilt.

"Aren't you glad I came out?"
Gwen looked at her coldly. No one knew better than the woman in front of her how she got into prison, but now under the face mask of her, she wore another mask of innocence.

And this mask of innocence may be the cause why her so-called father abandoned his wife and daughter and his conscience.

"What a jinx to our family, how dare you come back, you don't feel ashamed, me and your father, we feel ashamed!"

"Don't you know well enough how I became the shame of the family?"
As Gwen Wen closed in, her face cold, Susan Zhang recoiled.

She did not look as naive and stupid as she was three years ago; her frosty gaze was like a shapr blade..

"You!"

"Enough."
Suddenly from the second floor stairs came a man's loud voice. Gwen Wen looked up and saw her "best father ever", Dawson Wen.

"Gwen Wen, come here."

Dawson Wen turned back toward his study. Gwen glanced at Susan Zhang, pushed her out of the way, and strode in following him upstairs.

Susan Zhang stood on the spot and stamped her feet: "Released? So what! Sooner or later I can get you in again!"

In the study, Dawson Wen examined Gwen for a long time before he said, "It's only three years. How did you get out?"

Gwen Wen's heart sank.

The man she had called her father for 18 years reacted so coldly to her own daughter's release from prison.

She had thought better of him, but It turned out that not only Susan Zhang and Anne Wen, but Dawson Wen also wanted her to stay in prison forever.

Gwen Wen bit bitterly at the corners of her lips. This was the man she had respected for 18 years, the man her mother had loved for 18 years!

Susan Zhang was Dawson Wen's first love. Dawson Wen had chosen Gwen’s mother over Susan in pursuit of his career. But as his career took off, he cheated on her mother and went back to his old love. They gave birth to Anne Wen, her a little sister.

The setback and fall of her mother’s family business emboldened him to abandon his wife, who had helped and supported him at the start-up and hardest time of the business. Susan Zhang and Anne Wen took their places as part of Wen Family while Gwen and her mother became the a thorn in his flesh.

Gwen, who remained the rightful heir to the Wen Family’s fortune, was till now a thorn to them; especially for Susan Zhang and Anne Wen, they could not wait to see Gwen would die a violent death one day.

Three years ago, Dawson Wen declared the severance of their father-and-daughter relationship on the same day Gwen was arrested for the hit-and-run incident and appealed severe punishment for her. The stroke from cerebral hemorrhage provoked by this accident had Gwen's mother admitted to the hospital; Susan Zhang approached Gwen the day before the trial and threatened her with her mother's life-- stopped the appeal and pleaded guilty or they would leave her mother die in the operating room.

At that time, she could do nothing but admit that she was the perpetrator of hit-and-run, which later cost her three years and changed her life completely.

As scenes flashed through her mind, Gwen Wen's eyes reddened slightly, "How did I get out of here? What does it matter to you? Mr. Wen."

Dawson Wen frowned: "Now that you've come out, stop speaking in that sarcastic way. You hit the man, you serve your time in the prison; lucky for you, it is only three years."

Gwen Wen sneered, she hit the man?
They were, indeed, a family; all spoke with one voice.

The ability to frame others without feeling embarrassed was impressive!

Or the lies had become the reality to them?

Only three years in prison?

Of course, it was simply a normal three years out here without worrying about food and clothes, bullies of other inmates, darkness and coldness of the cell...how could they possibly know what kind of three years she had been through?!
