Chapter 16 Burning with jealousy

by S. Q 16:48,Oct 09,2020
By the time Hugh Lu returned, Gwen was asleep; her already petite frame was a more pitiful sight to him as she curled under the quilt on the floor.

She was in her guarded sleeping position which as he recalled from books was a sign of inward insecurity.

Oddly, he took a step forward to peek at Gwen Wen's face in the shadows; the red and puffiness of her eyes implied that she had cried.

For what? It was just a few clothes.

Hugh Lu, with an inexplicable displease surging up his heart, walked away from her and turned off the light before going to bed.

...

Gwen Wen got up a little late the next day, and by the time she woke up, Hugh Lu was gone.

It was better he was gone.

Thought Gwen Wen, feeling a bit tired; and suddenly, remembering something, she pounced to take a look at the trash bin, which she found out had already been emptied.

There was not a trace left of the clothes Nick Bai bought her yesterday.

Gwen felt a sudden chill in her heart.

At that moment, there was a knock on the door.

A man in a black suit came in with a straight face and handed her a black card with both hands. "Lady Gwen, I'm Andrew, assistant of Mr. Lu, and this is for you, from him."

Gwen frowned doubtfully. Though She had been in prison, she was still once the lady of Wen Family, and she knew at a glance that this was the secondary card of the so-called Black Card, a premium luxury credit cards, with an unlimited credit.

Why was Hugh Lu giving her this?

"Wait, I don't want it. You take it back."
Gwen took a quick glance, then resolutely handed it back.

Hugh Lu hated her so much; maybe he was trying to frame her now with this.

"Then, you have to give it back to him yourself."
Andrew took a decisive departure, leaving the problem to Gwen.

He was not here to negotiate with her; he was here to hand her the card and get his job done before Mr. Lu got angry at him.

Gwen, unable to catch Andrew, gawped at the card in her hand; why would Hugh Lu give her money?

She could not figure out why, neither did she plan to spent a penny from him; she could not repay it.

Taking out her phone, Gwen called Hugh Lu for the first time.

After a few rings, Hugh Lu's cold voice sounded, " What's it?"

“Why did this Andrew guy, you assistant, give me a card?”
“Why? What do you think is the reason? Didn’t you cry like a baby yesterday complaining that you don’t have enough decent clothes? Get the card and buy whatever clothes and no matter how many clothes you want!”

Gwen was even more confused, " But why?"

"I don't want to hear a word saying that we, Lu Family, could not afford a woman’s dress."

"Just take it," said Hugh Lu, annoyed by her questions. "And buy."

"I don't want it."
Dealing with such a temperamental man, she would only invite more trouble to herself.

Hugh Lu was a bit amused by her stubbornness and strange behaviour; Yesterday, she even shed tears over a few clothes, but now, she rejected his generous offers. " Don't tell me that you only use Nick Bai’s money; is that you how you show your loyalty to a man?"

Gwen Wen blushed. Nick was her friend and she would repay him, but this husband in front of her bore hatred and grudge of her, how could they be the same?

"Now you have only two choices. One, take this card and buy your own clothes. Forget about yesterday.
And two, I will take you to, but I make no promise what would happen."
