Chapter 14 You miss me?

by S. Q 16:48,Oct 09,2020
Nick Bai had been waiting there while Gwen arrived at the agreed place; he greeted her with a big hug." I was sorry."

Gwen shook her head. " It's over; I am out here alive and kicking."

Nick Bai took a soulful look at her eyes; there was a trace of tiredness in them; her thinner figure and unacquainted maturity told him that three years in prison had not been treating her very well.

"Enough of those unhappy things; let’s eat, I am starving."

Gwen broke the silence, not wanting to burden this hard-won meeting by such a heavy topic.

Sitting down, they inquired after each others’ recent situations.

"You married to...?"

Nick Bai nearly bit on his plate at the name of Hugh Lu; not knowing Hugh Lu, Nick Bai had heard enough of his mystery and ferocity.

He was a predator, heartless, merciless and brutal to his prey.

"Gwen, divorce him, you don’t wanna get involved with him; I would arrange you to go abroad, where you could start over!"

"No, they got me out of the prison. There is no way they will let go of me so easily?"

Nick's eyes darkened; he knew the power and influence of Lu Family; Bai Family stood no chance against them.

"Sorry, Gwen, it's my incompetence that you..."

"Don’t say that. I owed my life to you."

Gwen Wen grasped Nick's hands and said, " Don't worry, I'm fine for now. The Lu Family doesn't intend to take my life. That's what matters."

" Besides, I am not ready to die, not yet, I haven’t pay Wens back for what they have done to me."
Gwen consoled him.

Not far away, a laser-like gaze fell on the overlapped hands of the two.

Hugh Lu, who had been out of town on business for a few days, happened to have a business appointment here today when he spotted Gwen sitting by the window.

Her face was as delicate as at home except the smile on it had brought some vitality, warmth and womanliness to her. She felt, alive and charming.

He got a glimpse of the man sitting across from Gwen--the only son of the Bai Family, a pure playboy, who was sent abroad a few years ago.

He was but absent for a few days, and she had already hook up with another guy, prepared herself for the life after their divorce? What a nice and quick move.

Hugh Lu withdrew his gaze. Good, that was quite something.

"Mr. Lu, what’s the problem?"
Asked his dinner companion while seeing Hugh Lu's face getting sullen.

"Nothing, it is just this restaurant is open to EVERY type of person, not very formal; let’s change a place."

After finishing their dinner, Gwen was dragged by Nick to the mall shopping for clothes.

"Stay positive, don’t cut yourself off the society; let bygones be bygones, you must go out to work, you must dress in new; I can't stay here much longer. You must take good care of yourself..”

With that, he handed her a bank card, which Gwen rejected immediately, and after a while of back and forth, he perished the thought.

She had been deep in debt to him already.

Gwen went home carrying a large bag of things. The maid came up to her as she stepped in. " Young Master has come back."

Gwen Wen's heart leapt and she nodded, "Got it."

Her day was over.

Gwen Wen straightened her clothes, took a deep breath, and walked into the room.

When Hugh Lu sees her coming back, his eyes fall on the shopping bag in her hand, ironically enough, and with a few words he coax her to splurge on something for her.

Seeing her walk in with shopping bag in hand, Hugh Lu gave her a contemptuous look. What a woman; with a few sweet words, she had the man spend a good fortune on her.

"What’s that, in your hand?” He asked deliberately.

Gwen hid the bag in her back vainly. " Nothing special, just a few clothes."

"A few clothes?"

Hugh Lu got up, snatched the bag over, and glanced at the tag on the clothes. " It doesn't look like something you can afford, where did they come from?"
