Alec, I step aside, but don't go far. I could feel the charged air around us, but that wasn't my main concern. No. It was the woman curled into a ball, looking like her whole world had been upended.
I hated seeing her like this. I hated seeing the pain in her eyes. I wanted to do everything to help her. To ease her pain. To protect her.
It's only been a few weeks since we found out we were mates, but she has already wrapped her pinky around mine. She would never understand. Hell, I don't understand it either. She would never believeif I told her, but it was the damn truth.
My hands clench as I try to hold myself back from gathering her into my arms. I have to fight the need to be with her. To hold her. To comfort her.
Everything inside was pushing me, begging go to her, but I knew she needed to do this on her own. She had to let go. To release whatever it was she was holding back.
I had this problem when I first shifted. I always tried holding back. Always tried cto controlKnox. The results weren't pretty. My alpha powers would build up so much that when I finally couldn't hold back anymore, I would lose control of both myself and my wolf. I had to come to terms with the powerhouse that was my wolf. Only then did I finally gain control.
"I hate this," Knox growled, his pacing givinga damn headache.
"I know," I replied, keeping my eyes on my mate. "We both know she needs this." He grumbles but doesn't say a thing.
"Have you been able to reach Nyx?" I asked, folding my arms across my chest. My eyes were completely focused on Sadie.
"Nope. She's blocked me." Inhuman sounds came from Sadie, almost as if she were physically in pain. She sounded like a wounded animal, and in a way, she was.
"Do you think she'll be okay?" a soft voice said beside me. It was only then that I realized that Raven and the rest had joined us.
I don't take my eyes off Sadie when I reply with a simple yes. My focus was on her. Only she mattered at this time.
Over I continue watching her. Seeing her struggle to hold it all inside. Rain poured down in torrents as the winds raged, thunder rolled, and lightning struck all around us. Looking at it, watching what was happening, it almost felt like the goddess was angry. Like the entire heaven was weeping with Sadie.
Her back arching is the only warning we get before a powerful energy burst is released from the center of her chest. It sounded like a mighty explosion.
We were all thrown back, and I hit the ground hard. I lay there for a while as I tried to get my mind back on track, as the hit had disoriented little bit.
As quickly as everything happened, everything stopped. The rain, the thunder, and the lightning. The sky clears, and the sun shines as if nothing had happened.
I jumped to my feet and momentarily stopped in my tracks as I looked around us.
"Damn," Micah murmured behind me.
I gave him a fleeting look, noting the surprise in his face, before I turned back to the scene in front of me.
Every tree lay on the ground. wWereuprooted while others were broken in half. The only place that remained untouched was where Sadie was.
I stand in awe of my mate. In awe of her powers. In awe of her ability to we of her a ld all that power inside without letting it show.
Shaking myself from the stupor, I sprinted towards Sadie. She lay unconscious in the middle of what used to be part of a large forest. "Sadie," I call her, shaking her, hoping to wake her up, but she doesn't open her eyes.
"Con, Baby, open those beautiful eyes." I still had nothing, so I just picked her up and rushed to the pack clinic.
