chapter 9 gloat

Late at night.
It was time to sleep, but Agatha Lin couldn't find rest.
She was feeling anxious.
Even though she believed there were more good people than bad people in the world, she had only known Orion Jiang for a day.
Moreover, the information mentioned that Orion Jiang had a mental illness. What if he couldn't control himself?
On the floor, Orion Jiang was lying there, and he could sense Agatha Lin's nervous breathing.
"You don't need to keep scissors under your pillow," Orion Jiang reassured her. "Sleep peacefully. Good night."
With that, Orion Jiang closed his eyes first. Agatha Lin felt a thump in her heart and retrieved her hand from under the pillow. She bit her lip lightly, wondering how Orion Jiang had known she had placed scissors there.
"He won't hurt me," she thought, and this idea grew firmer in her mind. With this thought, she relaxed and closed her eyes to sleep. The night passed peacefully.
Agatha Lin woke up feeling well-rested and found Orion Jiang already having breakfast. However, Cara Su's eyes were red, indicating she hadn't slept well.
"Hurry up and have breakfast. Mom is busy early in the morning," Orion Jiang urged.
Seeing Agatha Lin enter the bathroom, Cara Su quickly followed. "Last night, he didn't do anything to you..."
"No, Mom." Agatha Lin blushed. "He slept on the floor and didn't touch me."
Hearing this, Cara Su felt relieved.
Deep down, she still hoped that Agatha Lin and Orion Jiang would eventually separate. They were not the same kind of person.
"Let's go, I'll take you to work," Orion Jiang offered after breakfast.
"No, I'll go by myself," Agatha Lin said. "You should stay home. It's not safe outside."
She was worried that Damian Lin might try to harm Orion Jiang again.
"It's okay, they won't dare," Orion Jiang replied.
However, he frowned slightly when he saw Agatha Lin preparing to ride an electric bike to work.
Ride an electric bike? As the granddaughter of the Lin family, her living conditions shouldn't be this modest.
"Thank you, then." Agatha Lin reluctantly accepted his offer and climbed onto the bicycle, hiding behind Orion Jiang. At least this way, she wouldn't be exposed to the cold wind. It felt a bit different.
At the entrance of the Lin Group headquarters, hundreds of employees were standing there to welcome Agatha Lin.
However, their faces revealed anger and dissatisfaction.
They had received a notification late at night that they had to arrive at the company an hour early just to meet Agatha Lin.
Why?
Especially when rumors started circulating that Agatha Lin had become involved with the prominent Mr. Huang and was deliberately exerting pressure on the Lin Group!
Not only had Mr. Lin suffered massive financial losses, but he also had to come begging for her return to work. Even the president, Donovan Lin, her uncle, had to humble himself and implore her to come back!
Unacceptable!
How could there be such a person?
A group of employees seethed with resentment.
Donovan Lin stood at the forefront, well aware of the anger coursing through the employees. This was the outcome he had desired.
He refused to believe that Agatha Lin, who had drawn the public's ire, could continue to work at the Lin Group!
Once she signed the contract, she'd leave dispirited and dejected.
"Have you contacted Mr. Huang?" Donovan Lin inquired.
"I called him and informed him that Agatha Lin was here to sign. He mentioned he'd personally come over," Damian Lin responded with a tinge of jealousy.
When he had gone to sign the contract, he hadn't even been qualified to meet Mr. Huang.
Yet, when Agatha Lin arrived to sign the contract, Mr. Huang made a personal visit.
This woman truly had some capabilities.
It was even better this way, for the entire Lin family to witness Agatha Lin's true nature!
Orion Jiang rode an electric bicycle with Agatha Lin behind him, her hands gently holding onto his clothes.
"I didn't anticipate this." Orion Jiang remarked as he spotted Donovan Lin and a group of employees standing at the entrance, a trace of amusement in his expression.
"Donovan Lin seems to be quite desperate."
Agatha Lin stepped out of the car and was immediately taken aback. Why were all the employees waiting for her?
After all, it was just Donovan Lin.
Suddenly, she felt a little self-conscious.
"Welcome back, Miss Lin!" Damian Lin's gaze prompted his secretary to shout. In no time, hundreds of employees chimed in unison.
Agatha Lin could distinctly sense their voices, brimming with anger, resentment, dissatisfaction, and even disdain. Nobody would be pleased about waiting in the cold wind for so long.
She hadn't anticipated Donovan Lin's audacious move.
"Agatha Lin, are you satisfied now?" Donovan Lin wore a smile on his face, but his words carried a subtle edge.
It sounded as if everything they had done was a result of Agatha Lin's relentless pressure, forcing them to capitulate.
Agatha Lin's face reddened, and she was at a loss for words. It was embarrassing and difficult to explain, and it seemed that any explanation would be futile.
Those employees' gazes nearly felt like a death sentence.
"Very satisfied," Orion Jiang said with a nod, glancing at Donovan Lin with calm composure. "You performed admirably."
This remark instantly ignited flames of rage in Donovan Lin's eyes. What did Orion Jiang mean by this? It sounded like he was praising a dog!
Donovan Lin wanted to retort but was promptly ignored by Orion Jiang, who led Agatha Lin into the company without further ado.
"Who do you think you are?"
"So arrogant. It's no wonder Agatha Lin is so haughty. Isn't he just a door-to-door son-in-law?"
"I heard he's homeless and has mental illness. Agatha Lin sure has unique tastes!"
A group of employees whispered, their resentment mounting. They had been somewhat skeptical that Agatha Lin was truly like this, as they had interacted with her on many occasions.
But now, with Agatha Lin's useless husband being so arrogant and openly mocking Donovan Lin, wasn't Agatha Lin even more domineering?
It appeared that her earlier behavior had all been an act.
How hypocritical!
Agatha Lin's eyes welled up with tears. She wasn't deaf, and while some of their comments were hushed, they still reached her ears.
She felt heartache because she hadn't acted alone in these circumstances.
"Don't pay any mind to what others think," Orion Jiang said softly.
"Only those who can't reach your level will go to great lengths to slander you. Do you understand?"
Agatha Lin gazed at Orion Jiang with a blank expression and nodded.
Donovan Lin had her office rearranged into a separate room, which was larger and more luxurious than his own office. This further fueled the resentment of other employees.
Agatha Lin wanted to decline, but Orion Jiang pushed the door open and entered without ceremony.
In Donovan Lin's eyes, his wife had been wronged by working in such an office.
"Dad, I think everyone in the company probably hates Agatha Lin now," Damian Lin gloated, relishing the situation.
"And that lunatic!"
Donovan Lin sneered. Dealing with someone like Agatha Lin didn't require much thought on his part; there were many ways to handle her.
"Is Mr. Huang coming?" Damian Lin asked.
"He should be arriving soon," Donovan Lin confirmed. "Just wait a bit. Agatha Lin will reveal her true colors.
Tell me, if that lunatic Orion Jiang found out that his wife had been manipulated by Mr. Huang, do you think he'd go berserk and beat Mr. Huang to death?"
As they discussed this, both father and son wore expressions of amusement.
