It was too late by the time Mateo wanted to walk away.
Aaron, who opened the door and walked out, knocked into Mateo.
Fortunately, it was Aaron that came out. Otherwise, it would be embarrassing and humiliating for Mateo if Siran learned that her father-in-law was eavesdropping on their conversation.
He was not a person with a unique interest: He was just too anxious to know about the progress between his son and his daughter-in-law's relationship.
The moment Aaron bumped into Mateo's head, Aaron subconsciously closed the door tightly. He frowned and looked at Mateo with a darkened expression.
"Cough!" Mateo cleared his throat to hide his embarrassment.
"Are you eavesdropping on our conversation?" Aaron looked upset.
"Don't talk nonsense." Mateo feigned calmness as he lay down on the couch. "I don't have the habit of doing that."
Aaron snorted, gazing at Mateo, who had lied down. "Haha! The president of Shang Corporation has the weird habit of eavesdropping on others' conversation. If this news gets spread around, it will definitely ruin your reputation."
"I don't have to do this if you got married like a normal man and have an intimate night with your wife!" Mateo stood up and retorted agitatedly.
Aaron snorted coldly again. "I wouldn't be like this if you didn't intervene in my freedom."
"How long do I have to wait for you to fall in love on your free will? Do I have to wait until the day I die? Do you know how old you are already?"
Aaron disapproved of Mateo's views.
Not to mention those who weren't married at the age of thirty-two, there were also plenty of people who stayed single even as they hit forty years old.
Aaron wanted to end the conversation for fear of Siran hearing them fighting. "I'm too lazy to argue with you."
Soon, it was the next day.
Siran's back still hurt when she went to work.
And so, she rode her electric scooter warily.
Cara arrived at the company and asked Siran various questions, concerned about her wound.
Siran simply smiled and said, "Why do I have to go the hospital? I just need to apply some ointment on my wound. I'm not that weak."
"Did Aaron apply the ointment for you?"
"Yes."
"Let me take a look at your injury."
No one was present in Siran's office, so Cara closed the door and asked Siran to take off her clothes so she could see her wound.
"You hurt your back, so you must have slept uncomfortably."
"I slept on my side and on my stomach yesterday, not daring to lie on my back."
"Siran, you and Aaron need to take care of your wound. You two shouldn't get intimate these few days. Pay more attention to your injury."
Siran rolled down her clothes and glared at Cara smilingly.
"What are you talking about? Nothing like that happened between us yet. It's not what you think."
"What?" Cara was a little surprised. "You two have been married for several days and still haven't do that yet?"
"Do what?"
"Do that."
"Nope." Siran smiled and glared at Cara again. "Since when did you learn to gossip?"
"No, I just think you guys wouldn't be able to get your hands off each other since you're newlyweds. Musa and I had sex multiple times per night when we just became an item."
Cara would only discuss these private matters with her best friend, Siran.
But now, Cara regretted marrying Musa.
All the love and affection they had in the past disgusted her.
She sighed, her eyes flashed with anger. "However, I regret marrying Musa now."
"Do you think Aaron is as desperate as Musa? He is a gentleman." Siran said, "Besides, I'm not like you from back then, who was so in love with Musa that you only had eyes for him."
Cara deeply regretted her actions. She was too much of a hopeless romantic in the past.
"Cara, I'm not saying that you did wrong, but I just think women should be more sensible and rational. All right. Let's get back to work."
At around ten o'clock, Yelena came to the company with Cara's mother-in-law and Hayden in tow.
The two of them immediately went looking for Siran.
Siran was occupied with work. She had no time to talk to the mother-and-daughter duo even after she made several phone calls.
Cara came over and carried Hayden for a while before asking, "Yelena, Mom, why are you guys looking for Siran?"
"What else could it be?"
Yelena glared at Cara.
"You have the nerve to leave your husband at the police station. Since Siran's husband has the connections to bail you guys out, why didn't you guys fish Musa out too?"
Cara realized what was going on. "Is that why you guys are here to see Siran?"
Yelena retorted angrily, "Who else do you think we are here for? She doesn't even want to help out with such a trivial matter."
Cara replied, "You can't pin the blame on Siran and Aaron. Initially, Aaron planned to bail Musa out together, but Musa himself was too arrogant and did not take others seriously, mocking and ridiculing Aaron. Who is to blame? It's his fault for being stupid."
Yelena widened her eyes fiercely. "No wonder Musa said you are on the outsider's side instead of his."
"Do you still think of Musa as your husband?" Cara's mother-in-law, Lydia Xiao, glared at her.
Care smiled bitterly as she gazed at Lydia's dark and fierce face.
Lydia's bullying of Cara slowly got out of hand after Cara told Lydia that she didn't need betrothal gifts when she married Musa.
Cara didn't want betrothal gifts because she noticed that the Chen Family was having a hard time and didn't want them to go through the trouble of finding her the betrothal gifts.
But because of Cara's decision, they thought she was a pushover.
If Cara could be allowed to be willful for a moment, she really didn't want to be married to Musa anymore, nor did she want to admit that Lydia was her mother-in-law.
But Cara couldn't have a fallout with the Chen Family yet for the sake of her children.
After Hunter and Hayden were born, Cara could no longer act according to her impulses.
At this time, Siran came over after ending her call. She played with Hayden for a while before looking at Yelena and Lydia.
"Hi, Yelena. Hi, Aunt Lydia. How come you two are free to visit me today?"
Lydia remained polite before an outsider like Siran.
"Siran, it's been a while since you went to my house for a meal. Why don't you bring your husband over today and I'll cook you guys a feast?"
Lydia had always been one of those people who only showed up when they needed help from someone else.
Although Siran didn't interact much with Lydia, she still knew what Lydia was like.
She guessed the purpose of their visitation after seeing how polite and eager Lydia and Yelena were around her. Siran said simply,
"Aunt Lydia, Yelena, do you want my husband to bail Musa out of the police station?"
Lydia smiled. "It's a trivial matter. Since your husband can easily bail you and Cara out, it will be effortless for him to fish Musa out too. Help us out, okay? It's not a big deal anyway."
Siran's smile turned frosty.
"I'm sorry. My husband is a penniless peasant who doesn't what he is truly capable or not capable of. He can't help Musa out."
"It's so rude of you not to help with such a trivial matter." Lydia's smile froze, looking like a villain suddenly.
"Aunt Lydia, those words you heard just now was what Musa said. He thinks Aaron is incompetent, and he doesn't want Aaron to help him. You'd better go find someone Musa thinks highly of to help him. I have other things to do, so I'm leaving now."
Siran didn't want to waste more time on these foolish people and irrelevant matters.
She walked away decisively when she turned and left.
Meanwhile, Lydia and Yelena immediately directed their anger at Cara.
"Look, this is your best friend. She doesn't want to help us with such a trivial matter. Siran remained heartless even I, an elderly, begged her for help. She's inhumane!"
"She is bad woman because all she does is dresses up every day to seduce men!"
"Yelena." Cara was highly frustrated. "If she helps us, then it's for the best, and it's her choice if she doesn't want to help. How can you scold Siran just because she refused to do as you said?"
Yelena retaliated, "She will help out if she is a good woman!"
"This is emotional blackmail."
Even though Cara was fuming, she could not stop them from badmouthing Siran.
To get Siran to help, Lydia and Yelena thought of a way to torture Cara.
They passed Hayden to Cara, saying that if Musa didn't get released from the police station, they wouldn't take care of Hayden and would find ways to prevent Cara from going to work.
They knew it was Siran who instigated Cara to return to the workforce.
Siran treated Cara like a biological sister, and she would definitely understand the dire circumstances that Cara was in.
How was Cara going to work with Hayden around her?
Cara thought about finding a nanny but couldn't find one that suited her preferences at such short notice.
Siran also felt sorry for Cara and didn't want her to return to being a housewife. After a few days of being hassled, Siran finally relented.
On this day, Hayden cried relentlessly in the office, making it hard for Cara to work. Siran had no choice but to call Aaron.
Aaron was in the multi-functional conference room of Shang Corporation, using his phone to project a 2 billion investment plan on the widescreen for the executives to analyze and discuss.
The projector showed an incoming call: [My Wife, Siran.]
